Lewis ElmerLEWIS, Elmer Eirra  -  Passed peacefully, with his family by his side at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, Toronto on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019, at the age of 97.

Son of the late Thomas Henry and Lillian May Lewis.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary and his sister Leta.

Loving father of David (Catherine), Michael (Donna), Margaret Nicholls (John), Helen Richardson (Gordon), Monica, Stephen and Dianne (Phil Vinson).

Proud grandfather of Dawn, Darren, Sarah, Shannon and Bethany Lewis, Andrew and Alison Nicholls, Gregory, Lauren and Daniel Richardson, Beth, Matthew and Mark Cockerton, Steve, Jenna and Catie Dunham.

Great-grandfather of Peter, Ella, Chloe, Gemma, Wyatt, Matthew, Owen, Felix, Alex, Emily, Penny, Luke and Lily. Also survived by his sister-in-law Helen Moore of Lindsay and many nieces and nephews.

Elmer was a veteran of World War II and served overseas.

He was an employee of General Motors for 33 years. He was a longtime member of St. Gertrude's Parish in Oshawa and St. Leo's Parish in Brooklin and a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Knights of Columbus.

Elmer was one of the “originals” at The Court at Brooklin where he lived for twelve years. He spent the past three years at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.

Special thanks to Dr. Alena Hung, Social Worker Bailey Hollister, the wonderful nursing staff on K2E, the support staff, especially Ken, and devoted caregiver Lisa at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Tuesday, January 8th from 6 - 8 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY OF THE PEOPLE PARISH, 570 Marion Avenue, Oshawa on Wednesday, January 9 that 11:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre Comfort Fund would be appreciated.
