Sexsmith JuneSEXSMITH, June Dorothy (nee Johns)January 20, 1928January 4, 2019

Born June 20, 1928 in Port Hope, Ontario.

Peacefully, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, June Sexsmith passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the age of 90.

June was a dedicated employee of T. Eaton’s Co for 35 years retiring in 1990, working in the lighting, small appliance & repair depts, finding her passion in clocks & watches.

June enjoyed getting together with her Eaton’s retirees for their monthly lunches.

June’s true love was knitting. Over the years knitting hundreds of pairs of mittens for Zion Church and the Athabasca Street Public School Mitten Tree Program as well as for her children and grandchildren.

Christmas would no sooner be over, and she would get started on a new batch for the following year. June’s speciality was knitting beautiful baby layette sets and sweaters. June was passionate about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She also enjoyed family vacations camping, Bon Echo Park being her favourite, and gardening, always flattered by the compliments of pedestrians as they strolled past her home. Baking wonderful peanut butter cookies was also a delight. Prior to moving to Oshawa in 1962, June along side her husband Jim owned and operated Sexsmith’s IGA in Cobourg, Ontario and Sexsmith’s Meat Market in Peterborough, Ontario.

June is survived by her children Robert (Dorothy), Diana (Larry Kingsley), Susan (Jim), son Jim, and Sharon (Raymond Roche). Her grandchildren Sherry (Brian Watt), Nancy (Kevin Clement), Scott (Karen), Jennifer (Bill Bierworth), Robyn (Jeremy Rust), Clinton (Dianne), Sarah-Jane, Melissa, Jeffrey, Lacie (Ty Galloway), April (Ryan Belluz),and Lindsey (Scott Bowman).

Her great grandchildren Abbey Watt, Krystina ( Kyle Burnett) & Chantelle (Tyler Vanderwel) Clement, Elly & Taya Sexsmith, Robbie, Matty, Wyatt & Grace Kingsley, Bryar, James, Ryan & Shaun Plaus, Ashworth & Magnolia Galloway, Quinn Belluz, and Lily & Lucas Bowman.

June is also survived by her brother Kenneth Johns and sister Helen Brown, sister in-law Bev (Harold) and many nieces and nephews. June is predeceased by her husband Jim (James Irwin Matthew) Sexsmith and her parents Richard “Earl” & Mary Jane (Weatherup) Johns of Cobourg, Ontario. She is also predeceased by her brothers and their wives Fred (Verna), Howard (Verna), Harold, Emerson (Margaret), and brother in-laws Jack (Helen) Brown & Dave Preston.

June is predeceased by her sisters and their husbands Pearl (Ken Allen), Edna, Jean, Phyllis and her son Warren McIvor, and sister in-laws Grace (Ken), Norma (nee Sexsmith) Preston and her son David.

Friends will be received at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL 1587 Highway #2, Courtice (905-432-8484) for visitation on Tuesday January 8th, 2019 from 9:30 AM until time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 11:00 Am. Interment to follow at Bowmanville Cemetery.

Donations may be to the CNIB or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
