Riley GaryRILEY, Gary Paul  -

JULY 20, 1940 – AUGUST 15, 2023

Gary passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by his family at Lakeridge Health on Tuesday August 15th, 2023, in his 83rd year.

Born in East York, Toronto.

Predeceased by his parents Harold and Kitty Riley.

Gary was orphaned at the age of 13, and was brought into a new, loving family by Rose and Bill Farrell.

Thereby gaining another brother Jim and sister Roseanne, and consequently many nieces and nephews. In 1958 Gary enlisted into the armed forces, The Canadian Guards.

From basic training in Petawawa to serving overseas in Cyprus and Germany, he enjoyed many European road trips and particularly loved Copenhagen.

Gary served until 1966 and continued in the Reserves for 10 years. He married the love of his life Kathy on February 12th, 1971 and legally adopted her daughter Lorelyn in September of that year.

Together they welcomed a second daughter Tracey on February 13th, 1973.

They resided in Bowmanville until they divorced in 1990. He was an amazing family man, clever, funny and handy. Family and the military meant everything to Gary. He loved muscle cars and wolves. He will be truly missed.

Our family extends a special thanks to the caring doctors and nurses who have looked after our dad in his final days.

Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME 847 King Street West, on Monday August 28th, 2023, from 12:30 pm until time of Service of Remembrance in the chapel at 1:30 pm. Reception to follow.

Donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at oshawafuneralservices.com for the Riley family.
