GARROW, Mary Jane Garrow -
December 1, 1943 – September 30, 2023

I am saddened to announce the passing of Mary Jane Garrow of Oshawa in her 80th year, at Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa.

Mary was the daughter of the late George and Anges Garrow of Oshawa and her late sister, Diane of Brighton.

Mary was also predeceased by her friend of many years, Keith Fertile and her very special cat Smokey.

Mary was long time friends with the late Onda Gunn and her daughter Janyce.

Mary grew up on Brock Street in Oshawa and later lived in the Cy Elsy Building in the downtown area for many years. She enjoyed spending time when she was younger at the Oshawa Centre and later enjoyed many meals at St. Vincent’s Kitchen. Mary also enjoyed her TV shows, especially romance movies and Law and Order.

When the time came that Mary could no longer stay in her apartment, she wanted to be in Oshawa’s Extendicare. Mary was in Extendicare for just over 10 years. It took some time, but Mary settled in there nicely and Extendicare became her home. You knew you would have a good visit with her if you remembered to bring a bag of Werther’s candy and a Tim Horton’s coffee.

I can’t express enough the appreciation I feel for all the kind staff on the 2nd floor, that looked after Mary for so many years. You were not only her caregivers, but became her friends and family also. You have certainly gone above and beyond for a lady who didn’t have too many people in this world.

Any donations in memory of Mary could be made to St. Vincent’s Kitchen in Oshawa or the Humane Society of Durham Region.
