Carmichael LeslieCARMICHAEL, Leslie Carmichael -

Dec 18, 1945 – Dec 6, 2023

Sadly, the family of Leslie Carmichael are heartbroken to announce her passing in the early morning hours of Dec 6, 2023, just two weeks shy of her 78th birthday, at a care home in Oshawa.

Leslie had long suffered from severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and its complications.

She is now finally at peace and without pain. She is mourned profoundly by her spouse, Anneke Preyde, her family, and her friends.

Her unwavering cheerfulness in the face of long-standing health issues displayed remarkable courage that will live as her legacy to her many admirers.

Leslie and Anne were among the first same-sex couples to finally be legally married in Ontario in 2004 and stood proudly as pioneers in the LGBTQ community.

Although neither were outspoken advocates, their almost 50-year relationship is an example to those who value long term devotion and mutual respect in matrimony.

Leslie loved to cook (and left a family cookbook for her nieces and nephews), was a voracious reader, and enjoyed long, slow walks in the woods with her beloved dogs.

After Anne, Leslie will also be sorely missed by her extended family, including her brother, Paul Bunt (Sandy), sister Laurel McQueen (John), sister-in-law Mary Vicars, brothers-in-law Michael Preyde, Frank Preyde (Robyn), and Jim Preyde (Sue), cousin Sydney Binnington (Barbara), her many nieces and nephews, several grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many, many friends.

As an expression of sympathy, a donation may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Memories, photos and tributes to Leslie are welcome at the website of McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME Ltd. (www.makfuneralhome.com).

According to Leslie’s wishes, in lieu of a funeral, a celebration of life will be held sometime in late spring or early summer in the New Year.
