Varty RossVARTY, Ross James

July 1, 1931 – April 6, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Ross James Varty announces his passing, surrounded by the love of his family.

Predeceased by his wife of 55 years and the love of his life Mae (2010).

His family finds great comfort in knowing they are reunited and together again with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ross was a much-loved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son and Brother. Predeceased by his parents and siblings, James Wellington Varty & Edith (Tharby) Varty, George (Barb), Ruth Moffatt, Eileen Nelson (Bob), Lillian Pearl Varty.

Survived by his brothers Gordon (Marion), Fred (Barb) and sister Shirley (Ken) Fahey. He also has many nieces and nephews.

Ross has a very large and extended family, his three children - James, Glenys Hall (Randy Bailey) and Thomas. His three grandchildren Trish Hall, Brittany Vetzal (Tim) & Rick Hall (Carlene). Step Grandchildren; Dennis & Shawna Bailey (predeceased). He loved his 12 Great-Grandchildren Ashley (Alex), Austin (Billie), Emma, Eric, Cohen, Jaxen, Hudson, Solomon, Tye (Eddie), Riley, Carmen and Landen. And one beautiful Great Great-Granddaughter Sephira Ray.

He will be fondly remembered by his second wife Irene Martin Varty, her three children, Bryan, Alan, and Gloria and extended family.

Ross led a very full and active life involved with his family and Church this included umpiring baseball, much to the dismay of his daughter, although the years he spent sharing his skills and knowledge to help build her dream home “the cottage” will always be cherished.

Ross donated his time and skill to help build Trinity Pentecostal Church’s new addition among various other services to his church community.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper and loved being in nature. He shared this passion with his sons, Jim and Tom and his family and friends over the course of his life. Ross ran a successful fishing charter business out of Lake Ontario with the Miss Trish & Miss Trish II charter boats and became quite well known.

During the last few summers Ross enjoyed his time at the Cobourg Trailer Park with Irene, finding himself building decks, climbing roofs and keeping busy.

Your family will forever miss you as will all of your friends, acquaintances, outdoor buddies and church families.

Special thanks to the nurses at Peterborough Hospital for their patience and compassionate care .
