Gilliland CharlesGILLILAND, Charles Trotter Gilliland -

AUGUST 11, 1933 – MAY 2, 2024

Age 90, of Oshawa, Ontario passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

Beloved husband of Eve for the past 41 years, and Helen (deceased) for 23 years.

Loving father of David (Glenda), John (Sue) and Ronnie (Laura).

Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Shannon (Kevin) and Ian (Holly).

Dear brother of Margaret McLean, Ann Selleck (deceased), and Mary Pearson (deceased). Charles will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephew, relatives and friends. Charlie was born in Clydebank, Scotland, and immigrated to Oshawa at the age of 18.

While he became a proud Canadian, he was always ready with a story, a song, or a joke about his beloved Scotland. Charlie was the last blacksmith at General Motors, Oshawa, where he happily worked for 42 years, apprenticing many young tradesmen.

He was an avid fan and 50 year season ticket holder of the Oshawa Generals, attending every game he could.

Charlie loved life. He loved food, particularly “tatties”, vanilla milkshakes, and deviled eggs.

He loved animals, and he especially loved connecting with people. You could always count on him for a candy, a joke, and a back rub. But mostly, he was devoted to and proud of his family, spending as much time with them as possible.

He will be missed immeasurably. Visitation will take place at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King St. W. on Thursday May 16th from 9:30-10:30. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel at 10:30 am, followed by a light lunch.

Private family Interment of Ashes to follow at  MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY, Whitby.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to Prostate Cancer Research, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Humane Society would be appreciated.

On-line condolences or expressions of sympathy may be left at oshawafuneralhome.com .
