VERNON, Clare    - Passed away peacefully at home on the family farm in the presence of his family on the morning of Monday, April 23, 2018, at age 90.

Clare was the loving husband of the late Janet (nee Swain) for almost 72 years, and father of Gord & Chris of Belleville, Bev & Margaret of London, Marg & Ed Miller of Fergus, Kathy & the late Richard Hewitt of Omemee and Patti & Tim Ashbridge of Courtice.

Clare was the loved grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was always happy to see them play and to play with them at the farm.

Everyone was always excited to come to the farm for the Family Day bonfire and a feast. From the Vernon family, he is survived by his sister-in-law Elma Vernon (Robert). Clare is the last of the Vernon brothers: Robert, Harold (Helen), Ron (Evelyn), and Ray (Joan).

From the Swain family, he is survived by Connie (late Ernie Swain), Winnie (late Bill Cordingley), and Dave Swain and Joyce.

Predeceased by Reta Wilson (Jim) and Percy Swain (Doris).

Clare will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and neighbours who have known him over his full life of 90 years in the Port Perry Community. He and Janet were long-time and very active participants in many local organizations.

The family of Clare Vernon will receive friends at the Wagg Funeral Home, Port Perry, on Thursday, April 26th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.

A Service to celebrate his life will be held in the Chapel on Friday, April 27th at 1:30 p.m.

If desired, memorial donations may be made by cheque to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, the Port Perry Hospital Foundation, or the Charity of your choice.
