Born in Belleville, Ontario to the late Mervyn and Loreen Potts, Debbie was a conscientious student with a love of family, hockey, and the outdoors.

She graduated from Queen’s in 1979 with a degree in Psychology and the following year with a Bachelor of Education. Her love for young children shone throughout her life in her nursery school classes, private tutoring, and adoration of her many young nieces, nephews, and neighbours, who she loved even more than gardening!

Husband of Patricia (née Swainsbury) for 60 years. Father of Keith (Suzanne) of Dundas and Christopher (Tracy) of Waterdown. Very proud to be Pappy to Devyn, Molly, William, and Ellen.

Predeceased by his four elder brothers, Jack, Henry, Harvey, and Walter.

Jim was born and raised in northeast Hamilton. He was an acclaimed athlete, especially in the area of track and field. With Patricia, he was a founding member of the Spartan Track Club in the 1960s. He later coached and officiated at many events, including being a Chief Judge at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

He was also an accomplished football player (Hamilton Tiger Cats), shooter, skier (Canadian Ski Patrol), golfer, and fisherman (Dofasco Angling Club and Berkley Ambassador).

MELEN, Harold Eric  - Harold Eric Melen, age 93, died on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Ian Anderson House in Oakville, Ontario.

From his birth in Tyvan, Saskatchewan, on December 8, 1924 to his death, he made friends everywhere he went. Being born on a farm in Saskatchewan just prior to the Great Depression, his family had a difficult life.

CHMILAR, Gladys - Born, January 26, 1927 and passed away peacefully on September 11, 2018 with family at her side.

Predeceased by her loving husband Sam Chmilar, parents Frances and William Exon and best friend Marion Exon. She will make the journey to rest with them in her beloved Haliburton.

She is survived by her brothers Al Exon and Keith (Marilyn) Exon. Her devoted daughter and main caregiver Joy (John) Wilcox is deeply saddened to say goodbye. Their journey together has been the epitome of mother-daughter love. Granddaughters Kendra and Jenna Wilcox miss Nan terribly and especially visiting her with dogs and doing her nails. Her son Kent (Penny) Chmilar and grandchildren A.J. and Kelly Chmilar also miss the sweetness of her presence.
