RAWLINGS, Mrs. Joy E. (Cursillo, 1982) - (1923 - 2019) - Peacefully on Thursday February 7, 2019 at Georgetown, Ontario.

Now at rest with her beloved Arthur John (deceased 1990). Also predeceased by son Jim, her parents and four brothers.

Joy was born in Ottawa and grew up in Westboro Village. She was in the U.K. with her family when WWII broke out. Her family was able to leave the U.K. via the Canadian Red Cross in 1944, after Joy and Arthur had married.

Joy joined the Royal Signals and was promoted to W.S. Sgt.  Arthur served with distinction in R.E.M.E. with the rank of Warrant Officer.

After the war, Joy and Arthur settled down in Filton, near Bristol. Jim and Jennifer completed the family. Joy and Arthur enjoyed the challenge of running a business together. They were recommended to join the Royal Observer Corps, attached to the R.A.F. Together they both received a Long Service Medal for 16 years of service. In 1967, Centennial year, the family decided to come to Canada.

Jennifer and her husband Brian gave them two wonderful grandchildren, Steven and Catherine.  Joy and Arthur travelled a great deal and sad to say, in 1990 while in Moscow, Arthur caught a virus.  After receiving excellent medical care in Warsaw, Berlin, and Holland, Arthur suddenly died. Joy brought him home to Canada, and now at last they are together again.

Joy was so happy to have two great grandchildren, Ethan and Leah. To see Jennifer as a grandma was truly a gift from God.  Joy leaves behind her daughter Jennifer and husband Brian, daughter-in-law Alexandra, grandson Steven and his wife Merrina, granddaughter Catherine and partner Ian, great grandson Ethan and great granddaughter Leah.

Funeral details will be made available at Early funeral home, in Milton.

If desired, memorial donations to Habitat for Humanity would be appreciated.
