Agana CoryAGANA, Socorro Abarca 'Cory' - Also known as Cory, passed away at 6:22 a.m. on July 15, 2016, at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada after having been diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2014.

Her final days were spent with her sister Maria Melinda by her bedside surrounded by loving relatives and friends.

Cory was born on June 17, 1953, in Baguio, City, Philippines. She attended Saint Louis Center and Saint Louis Girl’s High School and continued on to Saint Jude’s College of Nursing in Manila where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Her nursing career spanned oceans ranging from Baguio General Hospital in the Philippines, to Salahuddin Military Hospital in Tripoli, Libya; a military hospital in Egypt; King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital and King Khalid National Guard Hospital in Jeddah; King Abdulasis Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and finally, Canada where she worked as a Personal Support Worker (PSW). She recently acquired Canadian citizenship on January 29, 2016.

Cory touched us all in some way by reminding us of the fleetingness of life by enjoying every possible moment of it. She loved to travel, dress up, entertain, play the guitar, and sing. She devoted her final years to caregiving so dedicatedly that despite having been diagnosed with cancer in January 2014, experiencing shortness of breath and weakness and tiring easily, she insisted on working until July 2015.

Socorro will always be remembered as a happy, lively, energetic, compassionate, helpful, and thoughtful lady. Her strong personality enabled her to fulfill her dreams. Her siblings would always remember for her kindness, generosity, and love of beauty. Her friends will remember her as the “Life of the Party” and “The Dancing Queen.”

Cory is survived by her three sisters, Sr. Teresita A. Agana, SPC of St. Paul College, Pasig City, Philippines, Maria Melinda Agana and Marcelina Agana Sawatsewi and her son Michael Sawatsewi, of Bangkok, Thailand; her two brothers, Jacinto Roscoe Agana  of Baguio City, Philippines, his son Francis Agana and daughter, Maya Katrina Agana of  Bangkok, Thailand; and Hilary Agana and his wife, Dyan Dy Agana of Florida, U.S.A.; her sisters-in-law Flora Manzano Agana and her son Alan Agana of California, U.S.A.; Victoria Paz Agana and her daughters Donna Marie and Carmelle, of Baguio City, Philippines; nieces and nephews in law and grandchildren.

Visitation at Glen Oaks funeral home, Oakville on July 22nd from 5 - 9pm. Funeral service will take place there on July 23rd at 11:00 a.m, with cremation to follow.
