Ethel is predeceased by her parents Frederick and Henrietta Miller.

She will be lovingly remembered by her long-time friend Mildred Armstrong and her family.


Lasby JoeLASBY, Joseph 'Joe' - Peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at Milton District Hospital, Joe passed away with family by his side.

Beloved husband for 45 years of the late Shirley Lasby. He will be sadly missed by his children Stephen, Heather, Patty, and Linda (Jeff) Roque. Fondly remembered by his two grandchildren Carly and Blake.

Predeceased by his brother Wallace Lasby and sister in law Maisie Lasby. Also always remembered by many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.


BOUSKILL, Mary Elizabeth 'Beth' (nee Wallace) - Beth passed away on Sunday February 26, 2017 at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington.

She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Mary (nee Blair) Wallace and is survived by her sister, Cathy Graham.

Beth was a teacher who began her career working with kindergarten children and ended her teaching years working with students in grades 7 & 8. During these years, Beth also graduated from university with a BA and later a master's degree in political science. Her friends will remember that Beth always loved a good political discussion.


Ostric IvoOSTRIC, Ivica 'Ivo' - Born in Zagreb, Croatia, on June 21, 1942. A strong sense of adventure led our Dad to Canada in February 1968. On February 25th, 2017, in his 74th year, he began his new adventure.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he is deeply loved and missed by his wife Josephine, their children Ivan and Lara (Mike) and grandchildren Grayden, Lochlan and Knox.

Craig was the caring brother of Keith Switzer (Barb), brother-in-law of Ray Thomson (Ellen), Gord Thomson (Grace) and Carol Burton (Tim).  Predeceased by his parents Howard and Donalda Switzer of Hillsburgh.  He will be missed dearly by his many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

He came to Canada from Portugal in 1957 to start a better life for his family. He struggled in a strange country under dire conditions for two years, saving enough money to bring his young family to join him. He was the backbone of a very close and loved family.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Silvina, and his adoring children Paula, Joyce, Fernando and Maria, and his sons-in-law Norberto and William and his daughter-in-law Rose.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of James Anthony Weber. Jim died suddenly, but peacefully in the company of his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia. Jim passed away towards the end of a very special Florida vacation spent with family and so many friends.

Jim's life was rooted in his faith. As a devout Catholic, rarely a day went by that did not start with morning Mass. This faith guided all he did and was the foundation for the love he shared with everyone he met.

Gingrich AmandaGINGRICH, Amanda Joy - (1981 - 2017) - After an eleven-year battle with cancer, Amanda passed away peacefully at the Bethell Hospice on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017.

Mother to Victoria; and wife and best friend to Todd, Amanda lived by her mantra: "Be positive; it's the only way."

She will be missed by many, and remembered for her courage, perseverance, and loving soul.


Custis BernieCUSTIS, Bernard Eugene 'Bernie' - Thursday February 23, 2017 marked the passing of Bernie Custis in his 88th year and the commencement of great grief for so many people from the worlds of education and athletics.

Bernie is survived by his sister Joan Mayfield of Philadelphia, PA, nephew Brandon Mayfield of Philadelphia, PA and niece Joanne Mayfield of Hartford, CT. Predeceased by his wife of 47 years Lorraine (Dafoe) Custis. Bernie was fortunate to have a wonderful companion, Doreen Douglas, who will miss him dearly.

As a testament to Bernie’s character, he had many families adopt him and for so many, he is a much loved uncle who will be sadly missed.

Bernie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1929. His athletic prowess shone at an early age and he lettered in baseball, football, basketball and track and field while attending High School. Bernie earned an athletic scholarship to Syracuse University where he starred in football as an African-American quarterback, which was unheard of at that time.

Bernie’s exposure to overt racism occurred when he attended a training camp after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns and was told that the NFL was not ready for a “coloured” quarterback. Bernie was given an opportunity to play for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in 1951 where he became the first African-American quarterback in North America. He was able to demonstrate his skills as quarterback and running back and he was instrumental in winning the Grey Cup in 1953.
