Quennell SueQUENNELL, Mary Elizabeth 'Sue Q' (nee Higgins) - Sue’s dance with cancer finally came to an end on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the age of 72. A fighter to the end, she passed away with her girls by her side at The Carpenter Hospice in Burlington.

Predeceased by loving husband Bruce Quennell (2000), and fondly remembered by her current partner of the last 10 years, Joe Pennimpede.

Cherished mother of Tracey Quennell (Steve Eggers) of Burlington and Allison Quennell of Toronto. Fiercely proud grandmother of Ben Pehora and Lauren Pehora. Dear step-grandmother of Chantel Eggers and Vanessa Eggers.

Sister of Marguerite “Sis” Leid, and half-sister of late Chuck Schutt and the late Janet Brown, and mother-in-law of Jason Pehora.

 

Lanthier LeonardLANTHIER, Leonard - (1959 - 2017) - Passed away suddenly at home on April 24, 2017.

Survived by his partner Una Schofield and her son Steven, daughter Rashell and son Joe.

Leonard will be sadly missed by his mother Elizabeth, sisters Denise (Gilles) and Linda, and by his niece Candace.

 

Howe BerylHOWE, Beryl Elizabeth (nee Howard) - A longtime resident of Burlington, Ontario, Beryl passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the RVH Hospital in London, Ont.

Born in 1920 in Kent England, Beryl's outstanding strength of character was forged throughout the Great Depression, the Blitz of London in WWII and the transition to rural Canadian winters as a young war bride. During WWII, Beryl initially trained as a nurse, but she eventually transitioned to a government position with the War Office at Bletchley Park, service for which she received a medal from Queen Elizabeth II in 2009. 

During those tumultuous times, she became engaged to RCAF fighter pilot, David J. Howe, whom she married in 1945 prior to her immigration to Canada.

 

Bird AnnieBIRD, Annie - (Member of Evening Star, Rebekah's Lodge, #79) - Passed away peacefully at Milton District Hospital on Monday April 24, 2017 at the age of 87.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Victor "Bruce" Bird.  Loving mother of Lois (John) Douglas, the late David (Brenda) Bird, Margaret (Gordon) Bird, Janie Bird, and Vicky (Robert) Boomhouwer.  Cherished grandmother of twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Annie is predeceased by siblings Margaret Downs, and Robert Crozier and survived by her sister-in-law Caroline Crozier, as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

Sales FredSALES, Fred - It is with great sadness that the family of Fred Sales announces his passing on April 24, 2017 at Milton District Hospital following a courageous fight with cancer.

Beloved husband of Isabelle (Adams) for 38 years who has truly been Fred’s strength and support.

Loving son of the late Jack and Peggy Sales of Milton. He will be sadly missed by his sisters Nancy Howard, Pat (Bob Dixon) and Donna Mayhew. Fred was a very special Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

 

Selkirk GlenSELKIRK, Glen Alexander - With an unwavering will to live, Glen passed away on Monday April 24, 2017 at Toronto General Hospital in his 42nd year.

Beloved husband of Enid Kathleen. Loving father of Alexander James and Maja Lynn.

He is survived by his parents Bob and Pauline Selkirk. Dear brother of Dan (Sonja). Son-in-law of Kathleen Headley and the late Norman. Brother-in-law of Deidre Stajduhar (Greg) and the late Jennifer Headley. Proud uncle of Tristan, Tenley, Mark, Sarah and Jenna.

Glen was dedicated to his family, his profession, and his research. He was a visionary and a dreamer and found peace within the love of his family, boating on the lakes of the Kawarthas, and with a basketball in hand.

 

Zavitz BobZAVITZ, Robert Benjamin McEwen 'Bob' - Suddenly at Joseph Brant Hospital on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the age of 75.

Survived by loving wife, Sharon (nee Wedge). Dear father to Darryl (Sandy), and Craig. Cherished grandfather to Owen, Jasper, Lucas, Nathan, Grace, and Emaleigh-Rose.

Predeceased by brother Ron (2014) and survived by sister-in-law Shirley. Bob will be dearly missed by extended family and friends.

 

Willcock Augustine SharonWILLCOCK-Augustine, Sharon Elizabeth - (September 13, 1960 - April 24, 2017) -

Sharon was born in Bradford, England on the 13th September, 1960 to her proud parents Delia and Emanuel who were originally from Dominica, WI. She enjoyed the love of siblings Marcella, Judith, Roy, Rosslyn and Christian. Sharon would always be on hand for babysitting her younger siblings with her already well-honed style of order and discipline. 

Sharon left home at 16 to live in London. After graduating with an Associate’s Degree and Specialized Certificate in Early Childcare and development and coupled with her enormous sense of adventure for always seeking the extraordinary, she took the opportunity to move to Canada as a Nanny - starting in Winnipeg and later Toronto. This would be the start of an illustrious career that would see her travel the world including, Paris, France and Gabon, Africa and Florida, looking after the children of Presidents, the nobility and even Mike Batt – writer of many world famous musical theme tunes. She soon became the Nanny to have.

Annie (Nan) Mitchell (McBride) Cuthbert, 92, of Guelph, Ontario passed away peacefully April 23, 2017 at her home in Riverside Glen in Guelph.

Nan was born in District of Waterside, Ayshire, Scotland on April 22, 1925 to Sarah Gibson and William McBride. 

Nan grew up in Ayshire, Scotland. She and James (Jim) Cuthbert were married in Ayr, Scotland in 1948 and emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1950. In 1960 their only son Kenneth was born.

 

Crawford MargaretCRAWFORD, Margaret - (February 24, 1926 - April 23, 2017) - Margaret died on April 23, 2017.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children Lynn, Marty and Ann; grandchildren Cameron and Carly and their mother Mary; sisters-in-law Katherine McKennirey and Sybil Crawford; niece and god child Christine McKennirey and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Margaret was born on a farm in Osceola, Ontario on February 24, 1926. She moved at a young age to Ottawa where she lived with her devoted parents Jim and Mary McKennirey, her older brother James, younger twin siblings Gerald and Geraldine, all now deceased. This was in the depression and while money was scarce, Margaret always said her family was rich in love.

 

Hall BobHALL, Robert Allan 'Bob' - Passed away peacefully, at The Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the age of 73.

Beloved husband of Pam (nee Tufford) for 50 years. Loving father of Michael (Jennifer) and John (Jordan Eveland). Devoted Grandpa and Papa of Keagan, Connor, Coen, Jackson, Dalton, Merrick, Sadie and Sola.

Treasured brother of Bonny Jensen (John Snelgrove), Wendy Morin (George), Debbie Fester (Chuck Clark) and brother-in-law of Jamie Tufford.

Bob was the third generation owner/operator of Fred Hall and Son in Hamilton. As well, he was a longtime member of the Burlington Golf and Country Club and a great supporter of the YMCA.

Aebersold BrigitteAEBERSOLD, Brigitte (Siegenthaler) - Peacefully on April 22, 2017 at Headwater Health Care, Orangeville in her 83rd year.

Brigitte was the beloved mother of Trix, Pam and Steve and dear grandmother of Melis, Scott and Kayssie.

Brigitte will be missed by many friends and family.  She brightened up so many lives.

 

MAGRATH, Oonagh - Passed away Saturday April 22, 2017, at her home in Mississauga in her 81st year.

Born August 8, 1936, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The youngest of four children of the late Angus Lewis Macdonald and Agnes (Foley) Macdonald. In addition to her parents, Oonagh was predeceased by her husband Neil Magrath, brother Angus and sisters Eileen and Coline.

She is survived by her three children; Angus Keiller (Andrea Moss), Kelowna, B.C., Gavin Neil, Toronto, Ontario and Bronwen Alexandra (Jon McKechnie), Nottingham, England. Oonagh was the proud and loving grandmother of Cassidy Magrath and Lily May and Sullivan McKechnie. She is also survived by her nieces Eileen Littleboy, Jane Dorsey and Brigid Dorsey, her nephew Laurens Dorsey and many cousins.

 

McKinnon MaryMcKINNON, Mary Faith (deMille) - (1941 - 2017) -  Peacefully on April 22, 2017 at her residence in Guelph.

Mary was the beloved wife of Kenneth McKinnon, loving mother of David Andrew deMille and his family.

Mary will be remembered by the entire McKinnon family.

Judith was the beloved wife of the late Geoff Johnson (1999), loving mother of Chris Johnson (Wendy), Pam Churchill (Tim) and Matt Johnson, cherished grandma of Madison, Gillian, Jackson, Larissa and Calliope and dear sister of David and Stephen Marcus and the late Kenneth Marcus. Judith will be remembered by her dear friend Murray McEwen.

MURPHY, Denis  - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Denis Murphy (after a short illness) at the Chartwell Brant Long Term Care Residence, on Friday, April 21, 2017 at approximately 11:10 a.m.

He was in his 87th year. In his last year he suffered progressively from the effects of Alzheimer's.

He was predeceased by his wife Doreen and his sister Edna (Parry). Survived by his son, Leslie, daughter-in-law Susan and grandchildren (mother Nancy Murphy) Christopher (partner Ann-Marie), Andrea and David and great-grandchildren Keenan, Sean and Kristen.

As a member of the Tower Poetry Society, Betty wrote beautiful modern free verse poetry, along with books for children and young adults.

 

Bailey MaryBAILEY, Mary Lovelace (nee Turner) - Passed away peacefully in Oakville Hospital on April 21, 2017, at age 78, from complications of Parkinsons.

Mary was born in Washington DC, but lived in China (Swatow) as a child, from 1939 to 1941, and 1946 to 1948. Her parents, Geneva Dye, an American medical missionary and Joseph Turner, a British businessman (linens), met and were married in China, Geneva returning to Washington for Mary’s birth.

The Turners came to Canada in 1951, Joe setting up a subsidiary of a Northern Irish linen firm. They settled in Port Credit, where Mary went to elementary and high school. Mary then went to McGill University in Montreal, where she met Chris. Graduating with a BA (hon) in 1961, she went on to U of T for a social work degree.

Predeceased by her first husband Ernest J. Brittle (1978) and second husband Cedric Piggot (2015).

Loving mother of John Brittle and his wife Mary (nee Maida), the late Ralph Brittle and the late Adrienne Archer. Cherished grandma of Matthew Archer, Sacha Archer (Rui Xin) and Jack Brittle and great grandma of Alexie Archer and Charley Archer.
