Mitchell AlanMITCHELL, Alan Jack - Passed away at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 87th year, Alan Jack Mitchell (August 4, 1930 – January 8, 2017) of Hamilton.

Beloved husband of Joan Kilby Mitchell, father of Karen (Tom), Beverly (Jean) and Phil (Linda); brother of Ruth Borthwick of Burlington; beloved grandfather (Popo) of Kerry (Mario), Laura, Gregory (Samantha), Gabrielle, and Benoit; great-grandfather of Sofia and Lowell. Predeceased by his parents, Jack Mitchell and Gladys Middleton Mitchell.

Alan was a lifelong resident of Hamilton, born and raised in the west end. He was a journeyman painter and decorator, as well as a member of the Hamilton Fire Department for 32 years and 9 months. He was an ardent and unwavering loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs since 1940.


Alan served as a role model and mentor to many young people in Hamilton having volunteered his time as a Cub Scout leader, baseball coach, and mentor with Big Brothers of Hamilton.

The family gives heartfelt thanks to the Hamilton General Hospital staff for their compassionate and professional care of Alan and the family.

Friends and family will be received at Cresmount Funeral Home - Fennell Chapel, Hamilton on Thursday, January 12 between 7-9 p.m.. Funeral service to be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Internment will be to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CityKidz, Central Presbyterian Church, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. .
