MAYER, Louis – passed away after a brief illness, at the Brantford General Hospital on Monday, April 24, 2017, in his 81st year. 

Cherished husband of Nellie for over 62 years.  Loving father of Sandra, Tina, Ron (Cheryl) and Alison.  Proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  Dear brother of Roland (Anne), Frank (Sharon) and Lillian (Geno).  Louis is also survived by many extended family members. 

 

Dougherty GraemeDOUGHERTY, Graeme Kay - Graeme passed away peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Monday, April 24, 2017 in his 82nd year with his loving family by his side. 

He is survived by his devoted wife Mabel (Purdy), his children Kenneth (Nancy), Candy (Larry) and David (Michelle).  Loving grandfather of Colin (Cari) Dougherty, Michelle Dougherty, Bryce Watson (Shyan), Shawn and Lisa Dougherty and their mother. Cherished great-grandfather of the apples of his eye, Calysa, Kaydon, Emerson, and baby Betheany Dougherty and Frank. 

Survived by sisters-in-law Carole Dougherty, Margaret Willson and brother-in-law James (Marie) Purdy and many nieces and nephews. 

 

Toltl NicholasTOLTL, Nicholas Peter - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas on April 23, 2017 at the age of 45 years.

Loving husband of Tracey. Beloved father to Nathan who was everything to him.

He will be infinitely missed by his loving parents Nicholas and Eva, his brother David (Anna-Marie), his sister Lisa (Brandon), his nephew Stephen, his niece Nadia, his aunt Julia, his uncle Dan, cousins Danny and Kristine (Mark) his grandmother Irene, and extended family, colleagues and good friends.

WITHERINGTON, Chuck - It is with profound sadness that the family of Chuck Witherington announces his passing after a brief illness on April 23, 2017. 

Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marg, his children Charlie (Lisa), Annette (Doug) and Laura.  Chuck will also be missed by his two grandchildren, Joshua and Michael, his sisters Ellen (Jake), Janice (Dave), nieces and nephews. 

 

Sherman GiselaSHERMAN, Gisela Tobien - Suddenly, while enjoying her favourite pastime, walking through the Dundas woods on Sunday, April 23, 2017, we lost our beloved Gisela. 

She will be forever missed by her husband Frank, daughters Rebecca, Jainna, son Charlie (Alexandra Weaver), sisters Barbara MacDougall (Ian Thomas) and Helga Graham (Stewart), nieces and nephews Ian, Heather, Katrina, Joshua, Alexander, Amanda, Melissa, Kiley and Ethan, and many family members and friends. 

Predeceased by her parents Anneliese and Siegfried Tobien. 

Gisela was a teacher, published author, and actor.  She loved all things nature, books, hiking, cycling and gardening. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend; a beautiful, selfless, kind hearted spirit who will be missed by many.

In his 73rd year, surrounded by his family, Roger went to be with the Creator on April 23, 2017.

Survived by his brothers, Sid and Alex (Holly). Dear uncle of Nicki, Craig, Renae (Ben), Lindsay, Simon, Jack, Jesse and the late Cory Thomas.

Predeceased by parents Clifford Sr. (1981) and Sadie (1989) and brother, Clifford Jr. “Beet” (2001). Proud uncle of seven great-nieces and nephews.

 

Shiels DoreenSHIELS, Doreen (nee Carr) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Evelyn Doreen Shiels on Sunday, April 23rd, 2017, at Tranquility Place in her 88th year. 

Wife of the late David Shiels (2016).  Loving mother of Brian and Gail Merritt, Donna Ferguson, Susan Hager and Ernie Gawdun and family.  Much loved Nana of Brenda, Shelby, Julie and Brett. Great –Nana of Brittany (Gerry), Curtis, Reece, Rowan, Quinn, Conlan, Landon, Natalie and Brenna and Great-Great-Nana of Zoey. 

Sadly missed by siblings Helen White and Glenn Carr and in-laws Pat Hart and Carol and Bill Nolan.

KISKO, Douglas Alexander - It is with great sadness the family of Douglas announces his unexpected passing on Sunday, April 23rd at the age of 50 years.

Beloved son to Susan and the late Dave (1992) and brother to the late John (2003). Loved father to David and Nathan and will be sadly missed by Sandra Page.

 

FUSILIER, Deborah Jean - Deborah Jean (nee: Wootton) Fusilier died on Sunday, April 23, 2017. 

She was born in New Mexico in 1950, the daughter of Laurie Thomas and Sheila (Bugeln) Wootton.  Her father was a career U.S. Air Force officer, so she had many homes until her parents retired to Florida. 

 

NANTICOKE, James Russell - Peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Sunday April 23, 2017 at the age of 64 years.

Husband of the late Shirley Seymour. Loving father of Kattie Bea (Roy), Jamie Ann, Charlie (Tara), Tanya (Bill), and Sherri (Derek). Traditional friend of Kendra Skye. Dear Doda of Gabrielle, Colton, Marjorie, Steven, and Dakota. Dear Great Doda of Cloey, Bianca, and Zahara. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

 

HOPKINS, Shirley Ann -  With great sadness we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Hopkins unexpectedly, at her residence in Hamilton, on April 23, 2017 in her 49th year.

She will be dearly missed by her family including her brother Tom and Robin (sister-in-law) Hopkins, her nephews (Ethan, Evan, and Reid), step-father Tom Phillips and all her aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dear sister of the late Santina (Pietro) Cino, Gianna (Salvatore) Fantauzzo, Giuseppina (Angelo) Fantauzzo, Calogera (the late Franco) D'Ambrosio, Alfredo Rizzo and Aldo (Joy) Rizzo.  Sister-in-law of Giovanna (the late Benigno) Ginnetti, Elda (Gianni) Martino and the late Giulio Almonte.  Predeceased by her parents Luigi and Carmela Rizzo. 

She will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. 

Angela's lifelong passion was music and she enjoyed her singing career with the band the Blue Stars for over twenty years.

Braid PeterBRAID, Dr. Peter, Ph.D in Polymer Chemistry - suddenly and peacefully at home on April 22, 2017, at 74 years of age.

Husband of Ann for 46 years. Father of Andrew (Catrina) and Stuart (Laurie). Papa to Connor; Grandpa to Rhiannon and Fergus; Step-Papa to Andrew and Riley. He will be missed by Sister Elizabeth (Sandy) from Dundee, Scotland; Sister Suzie in Australia; and many nieces and nephews in Scotland and Australia.

Peter liked to play at golf and was left-back off the ice at the Brant Curling Club. He was the co-owner of Ayers Cliff Chemicals for 37 years. Peter loved to have a good time and enjoyed life to the fullest.

A celebration of life will be held on May 6, 2017 at the Brantford Air Force Club, 144 Grey Street, Brantford from 3-5pm.

 

SLINN, Kathryn Louise - Passed away peacefully at Lapointe Fisher Nursing Home in Guelph on April 22, 2017 in her 95th year.

Predeceased by her children Karen Merker, Linda Slinn, and Bill Slinn.

 

KAPITOR, William J.  - Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the age of 77.

Beloved Husband to Mary for 55 years and loved by daughters Margaret, Rose (Scott) and daughter Cassandra.

 

KEAST, Jean Anne (nee Milligan) - Died peacefully, with her daughter at her bedside in Hamilton, on April 22, 2017, two days after her 93rd birthday. 

Born in Fergus, Ontario, Jean studied languages at the University of Toronto. She had careers in teaching, banking and office management, and was a devoted and loyal friend to many people over her lifetime. She excelled at duplicate bridge and cryptic crossword puzzles, and was particularly gifted at reciting many of her erudite limericks. 

 

Finelli PompeoFINELLI, Pompeo George - Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Pompeo passed away on April 21, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital in his 74th year.

Loving father of Fausto (Angelika), Paul, and Rosemary. Cherished nonno of Leah and Rocco. Beloved son of the
late Fausto and Maria. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Rosa (the late Tony), the late Lucy, Frank (Anna), Tony (Linda) and Joe (Lucy). Sadly missed by Angela, many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

SMITH, Alberta Emma - Passed peacefully at Maple Villa Nursing Home, Burlington on Friday, April 21, 2017 in her 94th year. 

Predeceased by her loving husband James (2011).  Dear mother of Marilyn (Brian) and Kathleen (Glenn).  Treasured grandmother of Jeff, Sara, Laura, Kate, Amy and 8 great-grandchildren.

De KOK, Rene - Peacefully, with his beloved wife Dorothy at his side, Rene passed away after a short but intense battle with leukemia to be with his Heavenly Father and Savior.

He will be dearly missed by his children and their spouses, Angela and William Verveda, Ron Dekok and Joy Vander Kruk, Kevin and Julie Dekok.

Loving Opa of Isaiah, Mandy, Heidi, Zoe, Lily, Summer, Karissa, Jayden, Jude, and Kyrie.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

After a short battle with health issues John entered the arms of his Saviour at Brantford General Hospital in the evening of April 21st surrounded by loved ones.

Survived by his cherished wife of 47 years Marie (Roth), His children, Nicole (Carl), Maurice (Carolyn), John (Karen), Jason (Sandra), and Ken (Jennifer), Michelle and Christopher, and 18 grandchildren.

John was born October 1, 1943 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 12. Nine years later, in Hamilton, he met Marie, married and started his own family.

 

Romanowski ZofiaROMANOWSKI, Zofia - Gone from us on April 21, 2017. 

Zofia was born in Bryn, Poland in 1923.  In Germany after WWII, she met her husband Edward (2011) of 66 years,  In 1949 Zofia, with their son, joined Edward's flight to Canada.  Together they embarked on a journey of work.  After leaving the mining town of Red Lake, Ontario, they raised their family in the industrial City of Hamilton. 

Zofia was a loving Mother to Henry, Mary and Helena.  A loved Grandmother to Geoffrey (Carla) and Christopher (Amanda).  Pleased to be a Great Grandmother to Quinn, Emery, Liam, Ava and Sophia.  Zofia leaves behind her loved sister Olga Sajdak of Stuttgart, Germany.
