MCDONALD, John Edward - On September 16, 2016 John McDonald passed away at the age of 74 years at his residence in Trenton On., surrounded by family.

John will be forever loved by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (nee Meikle), and their children, Ian & Stephanie McDonald, Heather & Paul Cavanagh and Glen & Rosalind McDonald.

He will be affectionately remembered as ‘Poppa’ by his 5 grandchildren: Sylas & Mira McDonald, Isabelle & Nola Cavanagh, and Owen McDonald.

John is survived by his siblings, Dolly & Alexa McDonald, Jane Sinclair and Robert McDonald; pre-deceased by his sister Mary Mackie (2015), respected brother-in-law to Marilyn & Joseph Hunt and to Robert Mackie.

John will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

John was born on December 9, 1941 in Ottawa, On. to Fred and Evelyn McDonald. Raised on the ancestral farm in Ormond, ON, he worked alongside his father and siblings running the farm, eventually moving to Ottawa to work for Bell Telephone.

In 1969 he relocated to Sudbury for Victor Comptometer Corp., where his children were born. In 1975 the family relocated to the Quinte area where John established and ran a family-based trucking enterprise.

A generous community man, John offered his time and expertise to various political campaigns, charities and neighbours.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 28, 2016 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at Farmtown Park, 437 West Front St., Stirling, ON.

Memorial donations in memory of John may be made to Prostate Cancer Canada (Research), 2 Lombard St., 3rd Floor, Toronto, ON, M5C 1M1.
