Bateman CarlBATEMAN, Carl Elliott - Carl faced his last challenge with his usual tenacity, focus and determination, but in the end passed peacefully in his ninetieth year, surrounded by his loving family at Kingston General Hospital on February 3, 2017.

Son of the late Stanley and Edna.

Beloved husband of Marjorie (Wright) for 67 years.

Loving father to Karen (Jeff), Kathy (Arthur), Bruce (Helen).

Grandfather “Trout” to Laura, Stephanie, Audrey, Eric and Maggie.

Brother of Ross Bateman.

Dedicated to public service and his community, Carl was the Clerk-Treasurer and Administrator of the County of Hastings for nearly 27 years, served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) for 20 years, assuming the role of Executive Vice-President of AMO and as the President of the Association of Counties and Regions of Ontario.

He served on the Board of Governors of the Belleville General Hospital for 17 years, including 4 years as Chairman. Carl was a past Master of the Stirling Masonic Lodge and a long time member of the Stirling Rotary Club, also serving as President. Active in political life, he was the former Reeve of Stirling, contributing to the community while maintaining respect and friendship with people and politicians of all parties.

An avid outdoorsman, gardener and adventurer, Carl enjoyed his retirement years with his family and friends in both Ontario and Florida. Carl was also a shuffleboard enthusiast, instilling fear and fun in his adversaries in numerous competitions and Championship events. He will be sadly missed by his many friends, family and associates.

Friends are invited to call at the Stirling Funeral Chapel, Stirling on Wednesday, February 9th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday, February 10th,2017 at 10:00am after which Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in the spring at Stirling.

If desired, donations may be made at the funeral home by cheque to The Heart of Hastings Hospice (Madoc) or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 228 (Stirling), are appreciated.
