Michaud BobMICHAUD, Robert Charles - Passed away peacefully in his 98th year on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Hastings Manor in Belleville.

Born in 1919 to William and Emily (nee Eves) Michaud. Brother to Vivian, George and Irene.

Loving husband of 50 years to late wife Barbara (Easton).

Father to sons late Bob Jr (Carol-Lynn) and Greg (Tanya), and grandfather to Jeff (Maggie), Chris, Jenny (Martin), Peter and Matthew, and great-grandfather to Katie, Brad, Evan and Daniel.

Bob lived his life with integrity and compassion. He was a successful businessman, establishing Michaud’s Furniture, a local family business of over 35 years. He was a respected elder of St. Andrew’s Church and a devoted Rotarian who exemplified the motto “Service Above Self”.

A generous benefactor and fundraiser, he and Barb devoted much of their time to giving back to their community and those in need further afield. This often coincided their mutual love of travel through which they never missed an opportunity to support communities such as Grenada, where they supplied sewing machines, and Barbados, where they supported schools for the deaf.

Bob and Barb shared a passion for golf, which they later took south with them to their winter home in Port Charlotte, Florida where they enjoyed many sunny winters until Barb’s passing in 1999.

Bob also enjoyed sharing time with family and friends at the cottage on Kashwakamak Lake and later in the 1000 Islands.

In 2012, in memory of his wife, Bob gave a major donation to initiate the funding of the new Barbara Michaud Fitness Centre to improve the lives of those in care at Hastings Manor. There, he continued to enjoy fierce competition with fellow Rotarians at his weekly game of Bridge and regular visits from family and friends including his dearest dog Mindy and grand puppy Sugar, who lit up his day. The family extends deepest thanks to the staff at Hastings Manor for their loving support and care throughout the years.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date, where Bob’s remains will be placed alongside of his beloved Barbara so they can rest together always and forever.

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society or Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
