Born in Peterborough Don joined the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 17 year old. He served both in the Army and Air Force. After the war he worked at Peterborough Automotive Supplies, then moved to Lindsay where the family has lived for 50 years. He was manager of Bowes and Cocks and ran the 3 Real estate offices in Lindsay, Fenelon Fall and Bobcaygeon. He was the first President of the Lindsay Real Estate Board.

Bruce retired in 1998 after having worked with the TB of E for 34 years.
