Poffley JimPOFFLEY, Jim 'Ernie' - (1936 - 2017) - Retired, 40 year employee with the City of Kingston. Following a lengthy illness, Jim passed away at Kingston General Hospital, on Monday, May 1, 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy.  Dear father of Allan (Anna), Jamie (Karen) and Kirk (Robin). He was also a father figure to Linda (Wayne) and Bonnie. He will be missed by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister Dolly and brothers Stewart and Richard.  He will be fondly remembered by numerous family and friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents Catherine and George Poffley, as well as his brothers Tom, Mike, Ross, George and Billy.

 

Hearn DeniseHEARN, Denise Arleen - (1961 - 2017) - Denise Arleen Hearn, aged 55, died peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on May 1, 2017 with her family by her side.

Denise is survived by her parents, James and Edith Hearn, her daughters, Leah Toffolon (Dane Ryan) and Rachael Toffolon (Don Bateman), her granddaughters, Quinn Ryan and Teigen Bateman, and her sister, Angela Strange (David).

She also leaves behind loving relatives, former husband Silvano Toffolon and friends.

 

Aiken WilliamAIKEN, William Arthur - Formerly of Yarker, passed away peacefully at the John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee on Monday, May 1, 2017, at age 91.

Beloved husband of Helen (nee Babcock) for almost 70 years. Dear father of Carol Dunscombe (John) of Yarker and loving grandfather of Brent Stephens (Stephanie) and Todd Stephens and great grandfather of Claire and Andrew.

Survived by his sisters Violet Gearing, Marjorie Lodge and Thelma McCallum and by his brother Donald Aiken. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families.

 

MEEKS, Rodney - (December 31, 1960 - April 30, 2017) - Peacefully at the L&A County General Hospital on Sunday, April 30, 2017 in his 57th year.

Life-long friend & companion of Gail Bryden. Dear father of Virginia Meeks.

Rodney will be sadly missed by his brothers David (Sylvia) Meeks, Peter (Janice) Meeks, Roger (Sandra) Meeks and his sister Connie (Bruce) McShane.

Predeceased by his parents Walter & Carrie Meeks and his nephew Trevor. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends.

On Sunday, April 30th, 2017, after a courageous fight with cancer, Roy passed at the Providence Care Hospital, at the age of 79, surrounded by the love of his family.

Beloved husband of 61 years of Virginia “Ginny” (nee Steele). Cherished father of Rozanne Leonard-Stewart (Tom), Kimberly “Kim” Leonard (Brian Last), Kelly Leonard Bowman (Glenn).

 

Caccamo VinceCACCAMO, Vincent Dominic 'Vince' - (June 2, 1942 – April 30, 2017) -

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the Caccamo-Finlayson family announces the unexpected passing of their wonderful and beloved husband, father and grandfather, after a short illness caused by complications from cancer. He was surrounded by his family and the music of Frank Sinatra during his last hours.

He is survived by his wife and dear companion, Corliss Finlayson, daughters Nicole (Glenn), Tamari (Matt), and Arabella (Liam) and 6 grandchildren: Jessica, Calvin, Milo, Luke, Jake and Sasha, brother-in-law of Gary (Sandy) Cutler and Douglas (Kathryn) Cutler. He was very proud of his daughters and took great pleasure in being a grandfather.

Born in Palo Alto, California, Vince moved to Canada in 1971 and every winter since, was surprised it was so cold. He almost made it to his 75th birthday and had planned to retire at the end of May after over 50 years as a clinical psychologist.

Gray LisaGRAY, Lisa Ann - (Owner of the Commercial Hotel) - Passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital, Garden St., after a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the age of 46 years.

Cherished daughter of Joe Gray (Tracy) and the late Linda Gray (George Yateman).

Lisa will be sadly missed by her partner Jamie Steacy and his daughter Izzy; her brother Andy Gray (Jessica Burton); stepsisters Terra and Kendra; her aunt Suzie and cousin Tygue.

She will be fondly remembered by her special friend Terry Baker and by her dogs Junior and Chloe.

Predeceased by her uncle Donnie and by her grandparents Lola and Don (Wiener) McKay.

Wife of the late Bruce Bowes and Owen Herbison, dear mother of Jason Bowes (Amanda), Randy (Tess), Rodney (Wendy) and Riley Bowes (Rodney).

Also survived by a sister Marilyn Witt, a brother Allison Tays, by sister-in law Willa Tays and by grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her daughter Rhonda Bowes and her three brothers and two sisters.

 

Fleming MarkFLEMING, Rev. Mark Walter Athol, BTh., M.A., Dip. Min. - (October 8, 1940 - April 28, 2017) - Mark left us trusting in God for all he needs for the future.

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Rev. Jean Barkley. Predeceased by his brothers, Anthony (Rhea), Richard (Orysia) and Michael.

Lovingly remembered by his niece, Nancy and his nephew, Mario (Maureen), his in-laws, Helen Barkley (Chris Humphrey), Murray Barkley (Pilar), his grandnephews, Anthony, Elliot and Scott, his grandniece, Allyson and the Mole family, Ken, Nicola and Christopher.

Mark was ordained to ministry in the United Church of Canada in 1996 and served congregations in Morin Heights, Ste. Adele and Shawbridge in Quebec, Edith Rankin Memorial United Church in Kingston, St. Matthew's United Church in Belleville and Perth Road United Church. He concluded ministry in 2011.

 

STANLEY, James Paul 'Jim', P.Eng. - After a short illness, James Paul Stanley passed away peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital just before noon on April 28th, 2017.

Known to many as Jim (or Mr. Stanley), he was born in Montreal on August 15, 1915 to Florence and Paul Stanley, and lived there until moving to Kingston in 1980.

He was a devoted husband to Anne, who predeceased him in 2012, and was a dedicated and loving father to Marie (David Connor) Susan, Jamie (Julie Stewart), Sarah and grandson Andrew.

For a man who lived fully into his 102nd year, it comes as no surprise that his brother Norman, brother-in-law Robert and countless friends and family members predeceased Jim as well.

 

Beaulieu AlainBEAULIEU, Dr Alain - (1964 -2017) - Major (retired) Alain Beaulieu, CD, PhD, RMC ’86, passed away at home in Kingston at the age of 53 on Friday April 28, 2017.  

Alain had a long and accomplished military career as a RCEME officer, retiring to pursue an academic career as a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC). He loved learning, teaching and most of all, laughing.

He is survived by his three children: Amanda (Ottawa), Emilie (Toronto) and Anthony (Kingston); his mother Louisette (the late Antonio Beaulieu), siblings Diane (Jean-Noël Groleau), Line (Pierre Bernard), Chantal (Gilles Dion), and Carl (Julie Pinette) of Sherbrooke; and many nephews, nieces, colleagues and friends.

 

Bodkin LesBODKIN, Leslie William 'Les' - Passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital, Garden Street Site on Thursday April 27, 2017. Leslie William Bodkin, at the age of 75 years.

Survived by his three daughters Paula Noel, Jodi and Sherry Bodkin. Also survived by his six grandchildren.

Predeceased by his twin brother John, by his parents Elizabeth Henderson nee Stark, Leslie Bodkin and his stepfather Robert Henderson.

Loving husband of 38 years to Shirley (Brown).

Dear father of Janet Wise, Rick (Karen) Wise, both of Orangeville, Sandra Wise of Deep River and step-father of Sandy Barrington of Alberta, Tom Barrington of Toronto, John (Annette) Barrington of Deep River, David (Cindy) Barrington of Mackey and Caroline Barrington of Saskatchewan.

Beloved husband of the late Susan Welch.  Loving father of Andrew (Melissa Schmidt) and Tyler Janusz all of Estevan, SK.

Dear son of Mark A. Janusz (Beverley) of Victoria, BC and Elzbieta Wisniewska of Lodz, Poland; and step brother of Andrew Wisniewska of Poland. Also survived by many other family members.

 

SHANKLAND, Jean - Passed peacefully on April 26, 2017, age 85 years, at Kingston General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Predeceased by her husband William Shankland, mother Jean Campbell and father Andrew Campbell, by her sisters Katherine Prudil (Sidney, deceased), Isabel Bonner (Douglas, deceased) and sister-in-law Margaret Ritchie.

Jean is survived by her son Andrew, sister in law Jean Thomas in Doncaster, England. Lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Rick Prudil (Lynn), Pauline Finlay (Bob, deceased), Sid Prudil (Pamela), Susan Prudil, Scott Bonner (Karen), Doug Bonner, Tracey Bonner, Elaine Tuckett (Dave), Dorothy Richardson (Keith).

 

Kemp DavidKEMP, David Ernest - "The first time she laid eyes on him she was certain he could not be human, rather something elemental, a behemoth, some wild crazed thing of storm-cloud and thunder raging across the stage, stamping the boards to splinters, fists like hammers raised up against the sky railing against Fortune. If there yet lived any gods upon Olympus, she knew they must hear him, and bow their heads in shame to his greater majesty..."

David Ernest Kemp passed away in his home in the early morning of April 26, 2017.

Now mourned and celebrated by his wife Susan, daughters Adrian and Stephanie, grandchildren Ada, Lily, Malachi and Finn, not to mention the dogs and the cats and everyone whose life he touched with his genius and with his compassionate humanity.

 

MEYER, Marion Edelgard - Died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 26, 2017 after a brief illness.

Born in Berlin, Germany, as a child, Marion was known for her brilliance and was reciting her poems on Berlin radio at the age of four. She went on to dub American and British films into German by the time she was seven years old. Fleeing the Nazis in 1934, what was planned as a temporary stay in Paris became a permanent departure from Germany. The family was separated as the Nazis began rounding up French Jews and Marion escaped into Switzerland.

Returning to Paris in the late 1940’s, she received a scholarship to go to the Sorbonne. After accepting her cousins’ invitation to visit the United States, she decided to stay with a close friend in New York City and was accepted into a Masters program in sociology at the New School in NYC using her fourth language, English. Her professor was the aunt of her future husband Henry. They married in 1956, she immigrated to Canada, raised two children and returned to the workforce in 1967. As a lecturer and then Professor of Sociology at Queen’s University, Marion enjoyed over 20 years of teaching.

 

Wolstencroft WarrenWOLSTENCROFT, Warren - Warren lived his life to the fullest until his passing on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, too early, at age 49.

A loving father and friend to sons Sebastian Michael and Julian Fletcher, Warren will be a part of happy memories for those whose lives he touched.

We will miss his passion for his Devil Lake cottage, sports cars, and 80’s ‘Hair Bands’, and treasure our shared moments for the rest of our days.

Beloved wife of the late Adam Lyons and dear mother of Doug (Sandra) of Enterprise. Grandmother of Carl (Angela) and Kent (Lisa); Karen (Paul Way) and Mark (Jennifer). Great grandmother of Zachary and Adam Campbell and Chloe; Carson; Lucas; Jacob and Elizabeth Lyons.

Sister of Lois Snider and the late Claude; Ruby and Doris. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Beloved husband of the late Ruby Boomhour (MacGarvey) and dear father of Lynn Lasher (Richard) of Tamworth; Graeme (Bonnie); Denis (Donna) of Napanee; Teresa Bell (Don) of Lansdowne; Brian (Julie) of Napanee; Keven (Mary) of Deseronto; Tammy Switzer (David) of Selby; Dena Milligan (Ken) of Tamworth and Karen Boomhour of Napanee.

Beloved wife of the late James Huff and loving mother of the late Carolyn Dalton (Peter).  Survived by dear daughter Bonnie Sweeting (David) of Lakefield, dear grandmother of Michael Dalton (Natalie) of Almonte and Christopher Dalton (Emily) of Brockville. Great grandmother of Tyler Dalton, Amber Holmes and Keegan Dalton.

Best friend William Asselstine of Odessa. Aunt of Christopher, Susan and Elizabeth of the Storms family of Picton and sister-in-law, Helen Storms. Predeceased by brothers, Lester, Lavern, Gordon and Ted Storms of Picton and predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Patterson of Calgary.  She loved them all dearly.
