Gardner MayGARDNER, May - With deep sadness, but gratitude for having shared in her life, the family of May Gardner wishes to announce her passing on Sunday, September 11, 2016.

She was surrounded by the love of her family and gave us the final gift of holding on long enough so we could say goodbye.

Bill will miss his beautiful bride of 52 years forever. May was the loving and supportive mother of David (Kelly) and Janice (Martin).  Her greatest joys in life were her 4 grandchildren: Callyn, Owen, Shelby, and Will.  May is survived by her 6 sisters and 1 brother in Scotland, England and Canada plus many in-laws here and abroad.

Born in Scotland and at the tender age of 21, May boarded a ship for Canada to start an adventure which would provide for a better life for her young and soon to be growing family. She was the matriarch, voice of reason and an inspiration to many. Her soft spoken nature and gentle kindness was always the calm in the storm. She taught us about strength and resilience.

We wish to thank the amazing staff at St. Joseph's ICU for their excellent care of both May and our family. Our deepest gratitude is extended to Dr. Gruber who has been her doctor for over 30 years.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, September 17th at the Hulse & English funeral home, St. Catharines, beginning at 10 am with a funeral service to follow at 11 am in the chapel.

In memory of May, please make donations to St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation or the Humane Society.
