Bessems SueBESSEMS, Susan (nee Weiss) - On Wednesday, March 8, 2017 after a valiant and courageous battle fought with dignity and grace, Sue passed away peacefully at Douglas Memorial Hospital surrounded by the love of family and dear friends in her 66th year.

Cherished mother of Lisa Billard, Jordan Bessems, Joshua Bessems and Joey MaGee. Proud and loving grandmother of Andrew and Quinn Billard.

Dear sister of Donna Gvozdanovic (Peter), Cheryl Rodrigue (Emilien), Gail Nowaczyk (Hank), Sandra Adamcryck (Larry), Jack Weiss (Donna) and Tim Weiss. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents John and Marjory Weiss.

Sue was a Support Worker for Community Living Welland/Pelham for 40 years. She enjoyed life and lived each day to its fullest, whether she was watching her grandchildren’s sports, trying her luck at the casino or simply taking a road trip with friends. Sue was an exceptionally warm, genuine, and thoughtful person who cared deeply for others. She was an extremely proud, devoted and loving mother and grandmother who poured her heart and soul into her family.

She always remained positive and hopeful and faced her illness with great courage and a radiant smile that never left her even on the darkest days. Although she will be terribly missed, her legacy (wtf) will live on through the many lives she touched.

Respecting Sue’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to share memories with her family during visitation at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Sunday, March 12th from 1 – 4 p.m.

A very special thank you to Dr. Hughes and nurse Barbara from the Walker Family Cancer Centre and to Dr. Greenspoon and nurse Julia from Juravinksi Cancer Centre for their care and support over the last two years. Also, to Dr. Scher and his staff at Douglas Memorial for providing compassion and comfort to our family during Sue’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre or to Community Living Welland/Pelham.
