Volante IginoVOLANTE, Igino – With great love and gratitude for the fullness of his long life, the family of Igino Volante would like to share the news of his peaceful passing at the Niagara Health System – St. Catharines site, on Thursday, May 10, 2018, in his 91st year.

Born in Picinisco, Italy, on December 8, 1927, Gino immigrated to Canada in 1952 and he began a new life in a country that he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosa and his children, Maria and Dino (Lena) and is now reunited with his daughter Helen (Fotios).

He is survived by his grandchildren Emmanuel, Despina (Larry), Daniel (Julie), Antony (Amanda) and his great-grandchildren Francesca, Alexander, Tristan and Cassandra, and his sister Maria.

Predeceased by his parents Cesidio and Matilda, and his siblings Antonio, Antonizio, Enrico, Donata, Pasquale and Vito and their spouses. Also predeceased by the many in-laws he loved Pietro, Amaleta and Carol Mastracci, Carlo and Filomena Giovannone, Robert DeGasperis, Pietro and Ersilia DeGasperis, Lidia and Guido Givannone and Aurora and Vincenzo Scala. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada, Italy, the United States, France, England and Brazil.

Gino loved his work at the C.N.R. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed nature, his garden, his neighbours, especially Dennis, making wine, playing cards and his many good friends especially Joe, Carmine, Mickey, Domenic, Mark, Bobby, John and Sandra. His greatest love was being a nonno and bisnonno.

Thank you to the many individuals and organizations who made it possible for him to remain at home – Dr. Kandasamy and Syl, Dr. Beshay, Henderson's Pharmacy, Darla and the Staff of the LHIN networks, especially Lea and Raymond, and the Niagara Health System for their compassion. Also, thank you to Father Andy for his pastoral care.

Friends will be received at the Bocchinfuso funeral home, 2 Regent Street, Thorold, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 13th with Vigil Prayers recited at 8:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 21 Queen Street South, Thorold, on Monday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m. followed by cremation. The Rite of Committal will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church Building Fund, would be appreciated by the family.
