WINDEBANK, David Edwin John 'Dave' - Died peacefully at home the night of Sunday, November 12, 2017 surrounded by his wife of 48 years Chris, son Steve, daughters Kelley and Julie, son-in-law Darin and grandchildren Cadence, Jack and Leo.

He will be remembered with love by his sister Cathie.

All of Dave’s impressive courage, perseverance and patience aided both him and his family throughout his valiant struggle with cancer. The dedication, positivity and true kindness of all those who cared for him gave him hope and strength and will never be forgotten by his family: we especially give thanks to Dr. Iris Noland and to nurse Greg Kaludis, who were tirelessly at our sides during Dave’s care at home. Thank you also to Drs. Levesque and Nanji whose expertise and responsiveness gave our family more time together than we had hoped possible.

In Dave’s 73 years he travelled the world as the child of a British military family and later as an Officer in the British Army. His adventurous spirit led him to Canada in 1969, where he embarked on a long and successful career with IBM Canada.

He and Chris began their family in Toronto in 1973 and later moved to Oakville, where they lived and raised their three children until their move to Brighton in 1998.

Together they roamed North America by sailboat and camper and travelled throughout Europe and Japan.

Dave’s artistic skills blossomed after retirement in the form of beautiful drawings and poems inspired by the places he’d visited, as well as short stories drawing on his own fertile imagination.

All of these we will treasure as precious reminders of his depth of feeling, his eye for detail, and the joy he found on his travels through life.

A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, Cobourg on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 11:15 a.m. with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until service time. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yonge Street Mission.
