For years, we have posted regional death notices as a free public service, while taking on the complete cost of publishing ourselves. We can no longer do so.

Without participating Funeral Centres, Cemeteries, Monument Suppliers and Local Businesses advertising with us, we can no longer run this website at a financial deficit.

We have received dozens of emails by folks upset at the discontinuation of our daily updates, and we apologize.  We also love this site, and considered it a great service to the public by accumulating and listing all Regional Obituaries in one spot.

Also, we appreciate the privacy to not contact the families of friends for funeral arrangements who may be shortly passing, as well as, friends not having to frequently check all local funeral centre websites for service information.

Hovorka AlenaHOVORKA, Alena (née Kuralova) - Passed away peacefully on December 7th, 2017 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

Alena leaves behind a loving family, including beloved husband of 50 years Miloslav (Mike); son Mark, his wife Meg, and their two children Evan and Andrei; daughter Alice and her husband Peter; sister Jitka, nephew Oldrich and grand-nephew Oliver, as well as many wonderful friends, neighbours, and colleagues within the region’s closely knit Czech community and extending well beyond.

 

Metcalfe TomMETCALFE, Thomas 'Tom' - It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Thomas on December 6th, 2017 in his 81st year after a lengthy illness, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

He leaves behind his loving partner Tracy, her daughter Dusty (Chad) and their newborn daughter Cleo. Son of the late Arthur and Rose Metcalfe, brother of John of Ottawa and father to Steven of Oshawa.

He was predeceased by his son Michael at a very young age and brother Peter.

Born in Toronto and raised in Peterborough, Tom moved back to Toronto as a young man to begin a long career with the CNR as a freight conductor, where he had a passion for trains and life on the rails.

 

Young VerdaYOUNG, Verda Velma (nee Loyse) - At the Peterborough Regional Health Centre with her family by her side on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in her 87th year.

Beloved wife of Fergus young and the late Gerry Ingles. Loving mother of Michael Ingles (Karen), David Ingles and William Ingles. Sadly missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Predeceased by her brothers Gerald Loyse and Grant Loyse. Sister-in-law of the late Joe Young (Zita), the late Billy (the late Ann), the late Robert (Eleanor), Jean Winn (the late Steve), Madeline Caddigan (the late Robert), Pat (Bonnie), Irene Grills (Roy), and John (Helen).  Aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Cherished Popa of Nathan (Emma), Elizabeth Tetreault (Dan), Aaron (Natalia), Kate Medland (Matt), Matthew Giles, Sarah (Brandon Drouillard), Evan, Samantha James (Jesse), Renee (Rob Guy), Amanda, Christopher and great Popa of Ryan, Clara, Abbeydia, Charlotte, Jacob and Savannah.

Beloved partner and friend of Faye Haryett for 38 years. Loving father of Evan (Linda) and stepfather of John Smith, Jim Smith, Tanya Haryett, John Haryett, Todd Haryett, Karie Parish, Tara Haryett and Jeff Haryett.

Cherished grandfather of Jamie (Shannon), Cory (Andrea) and many step-grandchildren. Proud great-grandfather of several great–grandchildren.

Predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Judy Martin; his son-in-law, Dave Parish; parents, Luther and Ethel Martin and his brothers.

Peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Heath Centre on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in his 92nd year.

Beloved husband of Phyllis Mary Hess (nee Robinson). Dear father of Robert Hess and his wife Barbara and Gordon Hess and his wife Gabriele. Predeceased by infant daughter Carol Anne (1954). Loving grandfather of Aimee Gannon and her husband Chris & David Hess, and great-grandfather of Nicholas Gannon.

 

McMillan JohnMcMILLAN, John Clark - John immigrated from Scotland to Canada with his family in 1923.

Predeceased by his parents Lily Clark and Thomas Paton, and his brother Tom, and by his beloved wife Orma after 64 wonderful years together. He is survived by his nephews David (Holly), Paul (Shelly), and Greg (Colleen)

A career banker, John joined the Royal Bank of Canada in 1937 and retired as Executive Vice President in 1982, with 4 1/2 years serving with the RCAF during WWII as a flight instructor and spitfire reconnaissance pilot.

 

Adams JudithADAMS, Judith Gail (nee Gibson) - Age 76, of Peterborough, passed away peacefully in her husband’s arms on Monday, December 4th, 2017 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

Judith was born in Peterborough; beloved wife of Kenneth Adams for 57 years.

She will be missed dearly by her daughter Shelley Adams, and son Craig Adams. Sisters; Franelda (nee Gibson) Gavas, Donna (nee Gibson) Milligan, and Bonita (nee Gibson) Corby. Brothers; Robert “Gibby” Gibson, and the late Ronald Gibson (d.2007).

 

JOHNSTON, James Raymond 'Jim' - Passed away peacefully at PRHC, December 4th, 2017.

Jim will be sadly missed by his son and best friend Guy, his sister and her husband Carol and Bob Humphrey, his nephews and their families.

 

TATE, Gladys 'Peggy' - Passed away peacefully just after her 91st birthday at the PRHC on Monday, December 4th, 2017.

Dear friend of the late John Tate. Loving mother of Lorraine Garvey (Sam), Johnny Conlin (Debbie), Raymond Conlin (Chris), Margie Kelly (Dave), Gloria Conlin (the late Hugh) and the late Patricia Garvey (Fred), Joseph Conlin and Arthur Conlin. Mother-in-law of Linda Tate.

Grandma will be sadly missed by her 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Dora Davidson, Kenneth Griffin, Raymond Griffin and sister-in-law of Jessie Griffin.

 

BRACKENRIDGE, Elleda Marjorie Annetta (nee Buck) - Age 93 of Westwood, Ontario, born September 16, 1924 passed away peacefully at Campbellford Memorial Hospital on Saturday December 2, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Wife of the late Maxwell Brackenridge (d. 1995).

Elleda grew up in Hastings. She attended Teachers College and taught school at Westwood. She married Max and became a farm wife. She had a love for music, taught piano lessons and played the organ at St. Andrews United Church in Westwood. Elleda’s main focus was her family, her home and helping others.

Elleda will be dearly missed by her children; Anne (John) Davis, and Dave (Margaret) Brackenridge.

 

Steenburgh RobertSTEENBURGH, Robert Charles – At The Bridge Hospice in Warkworth on Saturday, December 2, 2017, Bob Steenburgh of Cordova Mines, in his 85th year.

Beloved husband of Dolores (nee Chard) for 61 years. Dear father of Sherry Dingsdale (Mark) of Marmora and Cameron (Laurie) of Deseronto. Grandpa will be sadly missed by Angela, Jason, Amanda and Nicholas and his great-grandchildren Edwin, Tucker, Autumn, Bentley and Serena.

Brother of the late George, Bill, Dan, Harry, Inda, Grace, Gertrude and Keitha. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

 

Robinson DebbieROBINSON, Deborah Jane 'Debbie' - Passed away at her home on Saturday December 2, 2017, in her 55th year.

Best friend, wife and soul-mate of Neal Moyer.  Loving mother of Debbie Robinson and Danny Robinson (Erin), all of Peterborough and step-mother of Jake Moyer (Shannon) of Oshawa and Luke Moyer of Pickering.  Proud grandmother of Lacy, Emma, Melia, Wesley and Grayson.

Survived by her brother Victor (Stacey), sisters Deanna, Donna, Jacquie and Janet, parents Diana and Vic and several nieces and nephews.  Also survived by her sisters-in-law Christina Hill and Arlene Moyer. Predeceased by her sister Valerie.

 

O'CONNOR, Karl Joseph - Aged 73 years, born the 10th of August, 1944, died on the 2nd of December, 2017.

Karl, an outstanding basketball and track athlete in his hometown of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, grew up alongside his younger sisters Kathy and Peggy.

Karl met his future wife Judith Anne Quirk while attending University of Western Ontario and eventually moved to the United States to pursue his business career in computer hardware and software.

He was a lover of technology, travel, history and spending time with his family. He and Judy raised their two children in Fair Haven, NJ, Providence, RI, and lastly Little Compton, RI where he would enjoy vistas of the Sakonnet River and Atlantic Ocean as well as frequent family visits from Kathy, Peggy, her husband Mike, and sister-in-law Mary.

 

FINN, Margaret Jane - Peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Palliative Care on Friday, December 1, 2017 in her 103rd year.

Retired Peterborough Catholic School Teacher, Past President and Lifetime Member of C.W.L. and volunteer for St. Vincent dePaul.

Beloved wife of the late Maxwell Finn (1995). Dear mother of Lawrence Finn (Amanda) of Toronto, Maureen Siegel (Mark) of Peterborough, Mary Anne Nadeau (Bill) of Omemee, Terry Finn (Norma Curtis) of Peterborough and the late Don Finn (1981) and Gerry Finn (2004) and Gerry's late wife Catherine.

Arthur, beloved husband of 55 years to the late Barbara Jean Hutchinson (nee Madeley). Loving and devoted father of Janet (Ross), Anne (Rob), and James (Margaret). Cherished Grandfather of Mary, and Leslie Campbell, Grace, and Claire Archer, Ben, and Emma Hutchinson, Logan, and Landon Marchen.
