Beloved husband to Willy (nee-Viersma) for 58 years. Proud father of Doreen Daley, Anita Steiginga, and Richard Steiginga (Robin) Cherished Grandpa of Alex, Allison, Maranda and James.

Dear brother of the late Freerk Steiginga (Klaaske), Fred Steiginga (late Gay), Ed Steiginga (Brenda), the late Gerrit Seiginga (Klaaske), Maatje Tuiniga (late Sytse) and the late John Steiginga (Lucy).

Predeceased by parents Betty & Chuck, and sisters Carol & Doris, all of Toronto.

Allan worked for many years in the tech industry at Princess Margaret Hospital, Texas Instruments, Air Miles, LSI Logic and Lucent. He spent the last 15 years of his career at Humber College sharing his experience with others.

 

Murray WallaceMURRAY, George Carson 'Wallace' - The family of Wallace Murray sadly announces the passing of their father, grandfather and great grandfather on October 20, 2017 in Peterborough Regional Hospital.

He was a resident of West Vancouver for the past 28 years.

A man of quiet brilliance, who with his solid presence inspired calm, and confidence of all those around him. A perfect match for his vibrant wife Marie who predeceased him by three years.

He was an anchor to his family and friends with an exceptional inner strength. Quick to help whenever he saw it needed, always encouraging. A mentor to more people than he realized.

Dear father of David (Sue) of Belleville, Bryan (Jodi) of Melbourne, Florida, Jim (Melanie) of Kitchener and Scott (Christine) of Listowel.

Art is survived by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brother of Heather, Jim, Joe and Ken.

 

Robinson MarieROBINSON, Marie G.  - Of Peterborough, passed away peacefully at Meaford General Hospital on Friday, October 20, 2017, in her 72nd year.

Marie, loving wife of Jim. Daughter of the late Percy and Catherine Hoskin.

Sister of Fred Hoskin and the late Dayle Hoskin.

Marie will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

 

Turner BrianTURNER, J. Brian,  P. Eng., CEng MIMechE - With his family by his side, J. Brian Turner, age 92, of Peterborough, Ontario, passed away October 20, 2017 at Royal Gardens Retirement Residence.

Born September 9, 1925 in Southport, Lancashire, England, Brian emigrated to Canada in 1954, to work on the Avro Arrow before settling in Peterborough in 1959.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty (nee Brow), and children Malcolm (Barbara Black), Elisabeth (Peter Grasmanis) and Kathryn (Ed Witzke); grandchildren Claire and Anna Witzke; and brother Roger (Jill). Brian was predeceased by his sister Mildred Saunders.

Brian enjoyed a long career in the aviation and nuclear power industries including English Electric, Dowty Canada, Atomic Power Department of Canadian General Electric then teaching at Sir Sandford Fleming College.

 

Thirnbeck JohnTHIRNBECK, John 'Mick' - John 'Mick' Thirnbeck, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died Friday, October 20th, 2017 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.

John Wilson Baptiste Thirnbeck was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada on December 30, 1926. He married Barbara Jean Westran on February 10, 1948.

Beloved husband of Carolyn Wilkinson for 32 years. Dear father of Jessie (Nicole), Shannon, Jason (Taylor) and Kayla.

Brother of Suzanne ‘Lee’ Densmore and David (Annie). Uncle Keith is survived by Ryan, Jennifer and Emma. Predeceased by his parents Ralph and Connie Densmore. Brother-in-law of Jim and Caroline Wilkinson.

 

Curtin PhyllisCURTIN, Phyllis Elizabeth (née Wallis) - (May 15, 1932 – October 19, 2017) - After a brief illness, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother.

Beloved wife of the late Lorne Francis Curtin for 55 years. Phyllis will be sadly missed by her children Deborah Green (Ted), Darrell (Dana), Darlene Racicot (Randy), Derrick (Sandra), and DeeAnna Lyon (Dale).

Predeceased by her father Stuart and mother Lavinia (née Broad), brother James and sisters Jean and Dorothy. Survived by her sisters Marie and Linda, and brothers Gordon (Shirley), George and Arthur (Susan).

 

ETHIER, Laurie - (July 29, 1933 – October 19, 2017) - In her 84th year, Laurie passed away peacefully joining her husband of 65 years, Rolly.

Laurie was a loving and proud mother / mother-in-law to her 5 children, Nancy (Colin), Andy (Lynda), Steve (Carol), Ron (Mary) and Denise (Craig).

She was a devoted Grammie to her 5 grandchildren Danielle, Andrea, Kate, Kelly and Caiden and her only great-grandchild Brooklyn.

 

Boyle LeoBOYLE, Leo Patrick Grattan - Died as he lived: quietly, peacefully, and enveloped in the love of his family. Though his cancer was aggressive and the fight all too brief, his sense of humour, his gratitude, and his concern for others never once wavered.

For the entirety of his 63 years, Leo treated everyone with respect & kindness, even on his darkest of days. Not out of duty, but because it was woven into every fibre of his being. Regardless of his accomplishments, he was a humble man struck with awe and wonder, overwhelmed by the kindness of others and the beauty of the world.

He taught us many things: there is more value in listening than in speaking. Kindness doesn't cost you anything. Always say please & thank you. Play the cards you're dealt. Leo will be missed greatly; by his family, his friends, his colleagues, and anyone who ever had the blessing to encounter him.

Beloved wife of Bill Tanner for 69 years. Dear mother of Jane Tanner (Francisco) of Peterborough and Deb Follett (Danny) of Havelock. Grandmama will be sadly missed by Mandy (Tiffany), Danielle (Chris), Derek (Katelynn), Darcy (Tammy) and her great-grandchildren Douglas, Olivia and Westin.

Predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. Survived by her nieces and nephews.
