Wilkins WallyWILKINS, Wallace Frederick 'Wally' - Peacefully at Canterbury Gardens on Sunday, September 11th, 2016, at the age of 83.

Wally, dearly beloved husband of Joan (nee Somerville). Loving father of Heather (John) Cunningham and Carolyn Wilkins (Victor Rios Rull). Dear Granddad of Erica & Danielle Hendry, Myles Cunningham, and Samuel Wilkins Delorme.

Brother of Allan and the late Doug (Marion). Uncle of Valorie and the late Greg Wilkins. Wally will be sadly missed by his “little brother” Gerry Cornwall, good friends Dan Charron and Ron Lawes, their families, and by his many other friends and relatives.

Wally worked for Quaker Oats of Canada in the marketing and advertising department and was responsible for promoting many of their cold cereals. He was a Founding Director of Big Brothers of Peterborough, and a Founding Director and two-time President of Big Brothers of Canada.

After leaving Quaker, he and Joan purchased an old farmhouse in Selwyn which they renovated and ran as a bed and breakfast for over 25 years. Wally’s love of art led him to be the business manager of the Gallery on the Lake in Buckhorn and to mount an exhibit of Canadian Wildlife Art in Japan.

Wally and Joan loved to travel, purchasing and renovating their boat “The Lady Joan” which they sailed, with their children, from Peterborough to Expo ’67 in Montreal. While hosting visitors from around the world at their B&B, Wally & Joan found time to travel to over 40 countries on every continent except Antarctica. Retirement saw them purchase a motor home and over the course of 4 years, visit every Canadian Province, U.S. State, and state in Mexico.

A Memorial Reception to Celebrate Wally’s Life will be held at Ashburnham funeral home, Peterborough, on Saturday, September 24th, from 2 – 4 p.m.  Guests are invited to share remembrances at 3 p.m.

If desired, donations to Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated.
