Hitchins MichaelHITCHINS, Michael Roy - With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Michael Roy Hitchins (1973 - 2017).

Michael is grieved by his loving wife Liz (Rogers) and daughters Portia and Cadence; his parents Peter and Kathleen (Haughton), sister Ingrid, brothers Damian (Stephanie) and Edward, and nieces Gabriella and Jada.

He will be deeply missed by Aunts Pamela (Martin) Mordecai, Elizabeth (Donald) Wilson, Mary Cresser and Marcia Hitchins, and many cousins in Canada, the U.S., Uganda and Jamaica.

Michael was a former professional football player and great fan of Manchester United football team. He was a Red Seal chef and at the time of his death was working for Canada Post.

Michael and Liz took leadership in the founding of Stewart Street Community Garden in a park near their home. They also founded the Stewart Street Community Association. Michael was involved in lobbying the city of Peterborough to enforce rooming-house bylaws, for the sake of the tenants and the neighbourhood. He adored his daughters and taught them much; in particular, through his cooking, he gifted them an enthusiasm for food from nations all over the world.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, 18 March at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 10030 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, L4C 1T8.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or to Hospice Peterborough. Arrangements entrusted with Community Alternative funeral home, Peterborough.
