McVicar CathyMcVICAR, Catherine Janet 'Cathy' - Passed away at Empress Gardens, Peterborough on Monday, April 17, 2017, at age 77 after a lengthy illness.

Survived by her sister Susan Speer (Bill) and nieces Janet, Laura and Mary.

Cathy grew up in Port Credit and attended UWO where she received a degree in journalism. After working on newspapers in Barrie and Ottawa, she moved to Toronto and did editorial work for Nelson’s and Copp Clark. Cathy moved frequently while working in Toronto.

Being a minimalist, she kept few possessions but she loved cats and always had a furry companion or two. Cathy moved to Peterborough in 1997, so she and Susan were living in the same city for the first time since leaving our beloved parental home.

At age 66 Cathy met Jim Lamore who became an important part of her life. She could often do the unexpected such as going for frequent rides on the back of Jim’s motorcycle!

Reading and writing were always important to Cathy. For her they were essential. Starting in childhood, she began writing poems and stories and continued to do so throughout her life. Her love of the natural world is reflected in many of her poems. She was a member of the Canadian Authors Association where she met people who shared her passion.

Cathy has always been independent and introspective, with a strong religious faith and spiritual nature. She will be missed by her sister and family and her many loyal friends in Peterborough and in the Toronto area.

A gathering of friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted with Ashburnham funeral home, Peterborough.
