Our beloved father passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 5th, 2018 at St. Joseph’s at Fleming at the age of 75.
Dad went to sleep knowing he was cherished by his family and friends, and woke up in the arms of the Lord.
He bravely fought a 4-year battle after his triple heart bypass surgery by a massive stroke.
He taught us to be filled with faith, to be courageous and tenacious, to be supportive, generous and kind. He was a giving, fun loving man who loved his family and his friends. He was passionate about golfing, fishing, bowling, traveling and he adored his dog Bow, who he walks with once again.
He leaves behind four daughters to cherish his memories, Michelle Collins of Peterborough, Leah and husband Ron McEwan of Oshawa, Cara and Tracey both of Vancouver. He will also be missed by his three grandson’s, Brad, Brandon and Nathan.
Dad was predeceased by his parents Dave and Irene McDowell, his brothers Dave, Ted and Jim, his birth mother Marie Nix and brother William. Survived by sister Marilyn and brother Raymond.
Born in Port Arthur Ontario, he moved to Peterborough where he worked in Nuclear at C.G.E, and then for Ontario Power Generation where he finally retired. Dad was a proud volunteer at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
He lived at Princess Gardens Retirement Home for three and a half years until his recent move to St. Joseph’s at Fleming. We would like to thank the staff members at both care homes for the love and care they provided Dad. They hold a special place in our hearts for the loving kindness they showed him.
As per Dad's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date where we can gather to remember the love we all shared with him.
As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted with Nisbett funeral home, Peterborough.
