Kay was known to friends and family for her compassion, creativity, humour, and for her love of animals and nature. She was a person of unshakeable faith, fierce intelligence and strong moral compass, a wise and kind friend to many.
She fought cancer unflinchingly for two and half years, and even when tired and hurting was gracious and considerate to everyone she met.

She had 2 older sisters, Charlotte Elizabeth (1930) and Margaret Aileen (1931).
Her parents were James Hubert and Lilly Auretta Hillman McLean. By the time she was 5, both her parents had died. Then Aunt Lottie raised Ethel and her 2 sisters.
Ethel enjoyed spending summers at Aunt Delilah’s farm.
