Chapman WaltCHAPMAN, Walter Gray - Passed away quietly at the Meaford Long Term Care Facility on Friday, July 14, 2017.

Born on December 7, 1924 in Meaford he was the son of the late James L. and Bessie (Bumstead) Chapman.

Also predeceased by two brothers serving with the RCAF during WW 2, Kenneth and Merton Chapman. Walter also served with the RCAF.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pauline (Hatch) and daughter, Betty Jane (Rod) and son, Jim (Debbie). Grandfather of Jennifer (Keith), Heather (Ian), Michael (Jessie), Megan (GW), Kara, Kristen (John) and six great-grandchildren.

Walter worked in the family business spanning 3 generations, J.L. Chapman Ltd. with his father and his son Jim.

Very active in sports he played fastball for Meaford’s championship teams in the 1940’s and 50’s and was a founding member of the Meaford Amateur Athletic Association and was instrumental in the creation of the William Croft Athletic Field. Also a member of Meaford United Church, Branch 32 of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Pythagoras Lodge and served on the executive of the Meaford and District Chamber of Commerce.

A Celebration of Walter's Life will take place at the Meaford United Church Parlour, Boucher Street, Meaford on Saturday, July 22 from 11 am to 1 pm. Followed by a private family service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
