EBATA, Yoriko - With great sadness we announce the passing of Yoriko Ebata on January 15, 2024, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Born June 14, 1933, in Kobe, Japan, to Yoshio and Sumiko (Mary) Sugiura; older sister to Go Sugiura (Union City, CA) and Asako Ayabe (Osaka, Japan); and dearly beloved mother to Naomi and Michi.
An incredibly strong woman, Yoriko was a fighter who overcame many challenges in her life.
She arrived in Toronto in 1966 with her husband and young daughter with no knowledge of the language and culture.

Jean is survived by her loving husband, Joseph, and they were happily married for 62 years.

Brooks Greening Ash passed peacefully, in his sleep in his Toronto home.
Born in Toronto to parents, Beverly (nee. Greening) and Brian Ash, he was a vivacious and adventurous young man who was passionate about reading, hockey and lacrosse.
He is survived and deeply missed by his parents; as well as siblings, Madison (Paul, and their children Cali and Crosby), Carson (Jessica), Murphy (Daniel) and Skyler.

KUKLA, André Kukla - Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Psychology at University of Toronto, died peacefully in Toronto, at Castleview- Wychwood Towers Long Term Care Home, on December 14, 2023.
Born in Gilly, Belgium, on January 18, 1942, to Max and Lily (neé Merkel) Hofstadter, Kukla survived the Holocaust as a young Jewish child, immigrating to the United States in the 1950s.

CANTLIE, George Stephen Douglas Cantlie - George died in his home on January 14, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born on March 6, 1936, he was fascinated by the natural world as a child, and dreamed of becoming a forest ranger.
His interest in biology led instead to a career in medicine, and he specialized in the treatment of cancer at a time when great advancements were happening in the field.
George was an avid reader, so he always kept up to date on the research, which made him an excellent clinician.

Kevin, 61, passed away the morning of January 13, 2024 in the palliative care unit of Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto.
He had bravely fought cancer for 23 years.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kathleen Roberts, who peacefully, left this world on Saturday, January 13th, at the age of 95.
Kathleen has now been joyfully reunited with her late husband of more than 70 years, Edward Roberts; as well as her siblings.
Kathleen's legacy lives on through her surviving family including: her daughter, Paula, granddaughter, Caitlin (grandson-in-law, Salar, and great-grandchild, Kian); and grandson, Ryan.

He was born in Brantford, Ontario, on August 17, 1940, and left this world on January 12, 2024, at the age of 83.
Hans was a loving father to his daughters, Alison Thompson (Jay) and Suzanne Reid (Bryan); and a devoted grandfather to Erik, James, Maxwell and Jackson.
Hans graduated with a degree in Honours Philosophy from McMaster University, followed by a Law Degree at the University of Toronto.

After losing Albert, she moved to Canada with Allister and later married Dr. David Cole.

She passed away peacefully, 10 days before her 99th birthday, in her home that she loved so much.

AUGAITIS, Sofija (Zose) - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on January 10, 2024, at the age of 104.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Betty (George) and Daina (Andy and his daughter Celia); her cherished granddaughter, Kristina (Michael) and grandson, Wynn; nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, Lithuania and USA. Sofija was predeceased by her husband Peter and four siblings.
Born in Lithuania, Sofija was the first in her family to graduate from Vilnius University and became a teacher.

Greg was a social worker and psychotherapist who helped thousands of individuals, couples and families in a number of communities during a wide-ranging 50-year career.
