MATTES, Edith Ulrike (nee HESS)  - It is with great sadness that on July 31, 2018 at the age of 77 Edith Ulrike Mattes (nee Hess) passed away in the comfort of her home at the Village of Humber Heights, Toronto.

Edith was a business owner, a traveller, a fan of music, both classical and German, an avid walker and swimmer.

Edith won everyone over with her beautiful smile and laughter.

She loved being in good company, surrounded by her close friends, her four children and ten grandchildren.

Born in Nürmberg, Germany in 1941, she immigrated to Canada in 1961 with her husband Benno, who predeceased her November 2016. Together they began a small bakery and grew it to a thriving business; Del's Pastry Limited. Edith leaves behind her four children; Petra (Phil), Tom (Britta), Michael (Marianne) and Sandra (Scott). She will be greatly missed by her admiring grandchildren: Cara, Meg, Brayden, Robert, Kody, Justine, Sydney, Kevin, Colin and Quincy and extended family in Germany and Calgary.

A visitation will take place at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 2 p.m. until the time of the Service to be held in the Chapel at 3 p.m. Following the Service the family invite you to join them for a Celebration of Life to be held across the street from the Chapel at the Fox and Fiddle (4946 Dundas St. W.).

In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto (Alzheimer's Disease / Dementia at alz.to).
