Lawrence VioletLAWRENCE, Violet Evangeline - Age 89, was born on February 4, 1929, in Jamaica, West Indies. She went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2018, with family members by her side.

She was the second of four children born to the late Walter and Vashti Henry.

Many fondly knew her as Miss Essie or sister Lawrence and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her Mama or Grandma.

Violet grew up in Suttons District, Clarendon, Jamaica.  She became well known for her baking abilities within her district and beyond.  She baked everything from drops, grater cakes, gizzada and the most prize wedding cakes.  “The champion of wedding cake making was none other than our beloved Miss Essie”, Claud D’Aguilar – Rock River the Capital of Earth. Baking was her career.

She moved to Canada in the year 1996 where she continued to bake and had many customers.  Her baking warmed the hearts and stomachs of many. 

Violet had an infectious laugh and she loved unconditionally.  She was kind to a fault.  She performed every task with love and care.

Violet was predeceased by her husband Steadly Emmanuel Lawrence, brother Kerreth Henry and Winifred Prince.  She is survived by her brother Osmond Henry, Daughters Thelma Weir and Elaine Remekie and 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Ogden funeral home, 4164 Sheppard Ave. East, Scarborough on September 6th from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 9pm.

Funeral service will be held at Agincourt Pentecostal Church, 2885 Kennedy Road, Scarborough on September 7th at 11:00 am.  Interment at Elgin Mills cemetery, Richmond Hill.
