ORLANSKI, Eugeniusz Jerzy - It is with deepest sadness that the family announces the passing of Jerzy in the Toronto Rehabilitation hospital with his family at his side. Born July 6, 1927 in what was then known as Strzelce Wielke, Zdolbunow, Wolynskie, Poland. Passed away on September 19, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario.
Beloved husband to Władysława (Władzia), they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December.
Dear Tata to Kazimierz (Cathie) of Oakville and Helen Bewcyk (Brian) of Calgary.
Lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren Jennifer Arruda (Denis) of Calgary, Andrew Orlanski of Guelph, Lisa Grzesiak (Tom) of Calgary and Melissa Pickering (Troy) of Kitchener.
Jerzy had the joy of meeting his first greatgrandchild, 3-year-old Zoey Arruda and seeing online his newest greatgrandchild, 1-month old Sawyer Arruda.
Fondly remembered by nieces Barbara Sicilia and Ursula Philpott and their families.
Jerzy was predeceased by his parents Jan Orlanski (1969) and Maria Gora (1987) and by all of his siblings Henryka (pre 1924), Zygmund (pre 1924) Kazimierz (1942), Ryszard (2018) and Leokadia (2006).
War resulted in Jerzy, his parents and siblings being forced in Feb 1940 from their home in what was then Poland thereby beginning a refugee odyssey covering 17 years. Their journey took them to Russia, Uzbekistan, Persia, India, Bwana Mkubwa, Northern Rhodesia - eventually settling in a Polish refugee camp in Gloucestershire England in 1948.
There he met and married Władzia and welcomed their first child. In 1957 the couple and baby sailed from Southampton England to Toronto Canada where they were at last able to plant permanent roots, welcome a daughter and make a home near Bathurst and Bloor Streets.
Jerzy was a quiet and reserved man. He was a carpenter by trade and retired from the Toronto Port Authority at age 65.
Retirement gave him opportunities to pursue his passions for tropical fish, his garden, travel to Calgary to see his daughter and her family and to complete many treasured needlework projects. He was a fervent hockey fan and faithfully cheered on the Maple Leaf’s.
His deep Catholic faith was the centre of his family life and he was a parishioner at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church for 61 years.
Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Homes, Bathurst Street on September 24, 2018 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 and 6:00 PM - 9:00. The service will take place at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 12 Denison Ave., Toronto on September 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute or a charity of your choice.
