Saly JohnSALY, John (Johan Cornelis Salij) - Passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018.

John was born in The Hague, Netherlands on May 5, 1931. He is predeceased by his wife of 45 years Martha (2003) and their younger son Bob (2010).

John immigrated to Canada in 1955 and married Martha Kloosterman in 1958. They were proud of their two sons Bob and Anthony, daughter-in-law Judith, and grandchildren Pierce, Lauren and Rachel. John was passionately committed to supporting Bob who had special needs.

In 2005, John married Dorothy Thomson, who had been widowed for several years, and welcomed Dorothy’s three children Karen, Lindsey and Scot, along with 5 granddaughters Victoria, Jessica, Meghan, Michelle, and Kaelin, into his life.

John proudly worked for the Ministry of Naval Affairs in the Netherlands for two years. In Canada, he worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia and then the Royal Bank as manager of computer clearing systems until his retirement.

John loved socializing with many friends, playing table tennis, cards (Klaverjas), spending time at the hunt camp, and golf. He enjoyed singing and was a founding member of the Liberation Choir. He enjoyed travelling extensively with Dorothy. He was a real handyman and enjoyed puttering around the house. John was active in church life and had served as an elder of Immanuel Church and on the finance committee of the Board of Directors of Holland Christian Homes.

John was confident in his Christian faith and has been called home to be with the Lord.

Visitation will take place at the Brampton Funeral Home, Brampton on September 24th from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Heritage Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 7900 McLaughlin Rd. S. Brampton on Tuesday, September25, 2018.
