Thompson DerekTHOMPSON, Derek Stephen  -  On Monday, September 17, 2018, after a 3-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Derek Stephen Thompson passed away in Aurora, Ontario at the age of 70.

Predeceased by his loving parents, Arthur (2016) and Lilian Thompson (nee Ellis-2016); his cherished grandson, Grayson Kirkimtzis (2015) and his beloved wife, Anne Christine Kloepper-Thompson (2005).

Survived by his step-daughter, Carolyne Kirkimtzis, son- in-law, Tony Kirkimtzis and grandson, Maclean Kirkimtzis; his three sisters, Jennifer Thompson, Jay McKillop (nee Thompson), Janey Thompson, brother-in-law, Steven McKeown; and niece, Jessica Seifried.

Derek was a man known for his loyalty, determination, integrity and punctuality. He took a tremendous sense of pleasure and accomplishment from building his own business with his late wife Christine and business partner, John Warren. Derek had a great love for trains as well as sharing stories of his past with fantastic detail. During his last months he enjoyed reading and spending time in the backyard with cherished friends and family.

Tony and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to visit or call during Derek's last few months, helping to provide Derek with a laugh or heartwarming moment.

We are sincerely grateful to the hospital staff at Michael Garron Hospital as well as all of the home care staff that made it possible for Derek to spend his last few months in the comfort of home.

At Derek's request, no service will be held.

In honour of his memory, Derek asked that donations be made to Michael Garron Hospital or to SickKids Hospital in honour of his late grandson.
