Lucanie RoseLUCANIE, Rose (née Velli) - It is with great sadness that the family of Rose Lucanie (née Velli) announces her passing on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the age of 72.

Rose struggled with many illnesses over the years and fought very hard until the very end. She went gently into the good night amongst all the people she loved and loved her most dearly.

Rose was born in Ceprano, Frosinone, Italy to Vittorio and Annita Velli and immigrated to Canada when she was 5 years old. She grew up in Toronto, married her husband Leo and made her family home in North York, where she raised her children and lived with her husband Leo until her hospitalization.

Rose will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years and her greatest support, Leo, and her two children and their spouses, Mary Ann (Nicla) and Ralph (Nancy). She will always hold a special place in the hearts of her four grandchildren, who were the joy of her life: Isabella, Gianluca, Nicolas and Sophia.

She will be fondly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law, Lola and Rick, and her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Deborah. Rose will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Rose had a special way of making friends with almost everyone she met. She will forever be in our hearts.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand (traditional Gaelic blessing)

A celebration of Rose’s life will take place on Monday, October 15th at 10 a.m. at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, 2100 Jane St. in North York. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 8361 Yonge St. in Thornhill.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association to be made in memory of Rose.
