El Khoury JoeEL-KHOURY, Joseph - Known to friends as “Abou Tony” and to his grandchildren as “Jeddo”, passed away on October 12, 2018, 2 days before his 85th birthday.

Born in Lebanon on October 14, 1933, the oldest of 5 boys and 1 girl, Joseph grew up in Aktanit. He was a strong and handsome young man who can ring the church bells with one hand. Joseph worked tirelessly as a police officer to provide for his family.

He moved to Canada in 1992 where he eagerly went to school to learn how to speak English. He loved being a Canadian! He used to walk for hours every day and he knew the city of Scarborough like the back of his hand. He found peace in nature under a tree and he liked to play backgammon with his friends.

He was close to God and never once complained about his Alzheimer’s. He is cherished by his entire family in Canada and in Lebanon. He moved to Bendale Acres Christmas Eve 2010 where he met yet another family of loving caregivers. He felt at home there for 8 years, more than anyone could have imagined, thanks to his dedicated wife, Daad, who took two buses every day, rain, snow or shine to visit him.

He passed away holding his wife’s hand and shedding a few grateful farewell tears.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Daad (née Zaklit), children Tony (Nisrine), Fadi (Fadia), Jean, Camille (Ghada) and Rita (David) and 9 grandchildren (Joe, Patrick, Paul, Micheal, Mireille, Alexander, Carole, Nate and Maya). He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Visitation will be held at Highland Funeral Home, Scarborough on October 16th from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM followed by the service. Interment at Gormley.

Memorial donations in memory of Joseph can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society to help find a cure soon.
