Drury MaryDRURY, Mary Margaret  (nee CLEMEN)  - May 17, 1926 - October 12, 2018

Passed away peacefully on October 12, 2018.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years John (Jack) Drury, her children D'Arcy, Rosemary and Mark (Susan) and her grandchildren Darcy, Sarah, Rhys, Alec and Liam.

She was predeceased by her son John.

The youngest of six, Mary was born in Renfrew, Ontario.

While studying nursing at McGill University in Montreal she cared for wounded soldiers returning from World War II. A few years later she became a teacher and taught in a one room school house in Northern Ontario.

It was there that she met Jack Drury, who was a geologist, and they married in 1949. Mary and Jack primarily raised their family in Toronto, although they also lived in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and Madrid, Spain in support of Jack's career.

Mary spent many years doing volunteer work in Etobicoke, where she was President of the Red Cross. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Meals on Wheels program and helped with the development of long-term care facilities.

Mary was a prodigious reader of novels, history and newspapers. Her curious mind made her a superb conversationalist and dinner at her table was always an intellectual experience.

She loved to play cards and listen to Strauss Waltzes or curl up with a good book and a cat. Mary held all of her family close to her heart.

Many thanks to the staff at Malton Village Long Term Care facility for the kindness and compassion they showed Mary in her last years.

In accordance with her wishes her funeral arrangements will be private.
