Peterson GudmundurPETERSON, Gudmundur Peter, P. Eng.  - October 25, 1923 - November 13, 2018

Peacefully at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre in Toronto.

He is survived by the love of his life, Sophie Chenkie, his wife of 70 years, their children Sandra (Clifford Smith), Susan, Glenn (Peggy Ann Turner) and Kristin, his grandchildren Harrison, Alanna (Sabrina), Arne, Jacob, Evangeline and Freddy and his sister Christine "Kitty" Carroll.

At 19 he volunteered for the Canadian military and served in World War II with the First Hussars as a tank operator.

He landed in Normandy on D-Day and fought battles in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.

Peter's engineering career was in the aerospace industry first with Orenda working on the Iroquois engine for the Avro Arrow. In 1957 he was hired by Pratt & Whitney Canada as part of a team to develop a new engine; the resulting design was the world class PT6 turboprop aircraft engine. He retired in 1990.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Sunnybrook for their excellent care for the past 18 months. Cremation has taken place.

As an expression of sympathy a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
