STINSON, John Gordon - Passed away in his sleep on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the age of 96.

Predeceased by his wife, Margaret, son Tom, and great-grandson Reid.

He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Joan (Monty) and Lois, son Jim (Toni), daughter-in-law Christine, sister-in-law Connie, grandchildren Paul (Karen), Michael (Kerri), Daniel (Suzy), Madeleine and Nicole and great-granddaughter Riley along with nephews and nieces.

Gordon grew up in Port Arthur, Ontario. At 19, he enlisted in the RCAF and earned the DFC, completing 39 missions as pilot of Halifax bombers.

He proudly volunteered his time and talents to the start up efforts at both Current River United Church in Thunder Bay and Northminster United Church in Willowdale. Up until only 6 months ago, he delivered weekly Meals on Wheels to the “elderly”.

Dad’s best times, though, were always those spent at Silver Islet boating, fishing, chopping wood, tinkering and picnicking with family and friends.

Thank you to all of the Silver Islet campers who regularly checked in on Gord and helped him with his groceries and his chores as he got a bit older and insisted on staying at camp on his own. Silver Islet was his home and you were his extended family.

A celebration of life will be arranged in Thunder Bay next summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Gordon’s name to St Paul’s United Church in Thunder Bay or to the Salvation Army.
