SCHEMEIT, Eva   - Eva Schemeit of Toronto, passed away in the evening of January 10, 2019, in her home surrounded by the love of her daughters, son and their families.

She was born in the former East Prussia in 1938.

She trained in Germany as a nurse and after working in England for a year she moved to Canada where she continued her career at Toronto's SickKids Hospital working in the neonatal intensive care unit until she married Guenther Schemeit.

After raising her family and working side-by-side with her husband in his dry-cleaning business in Scarborough, Eva moved to St. Catharines and resumed her nursing career at Heidehof Long Term Care Home.

Eva loved singing in the German Choir, gardening and cooking delicious german food.

After her husband's tragic death in a car crash while he was delivering meals-on-wheels, Eva was diagnosed with MSA, a rare type of neurological disease.

Shortly thereafter she moved in with her daughter Karin in Toronto, who cared for her as her health declined She is survived by her children Karin (Larry), Kimberley (John), and Mark (Natalie) and her three grandchildren who were a great source of joy to her Hannah, Sebastian and Kristina.

She will also be missed by sisters Helga and Rita and sister-in-laws Bärbel and Edelgard with their families.

A burial for family and close friends will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 2:30 p.m. at Resthaven cemetery followed by a reception at 305 Beech Avenue from 4 to 8 p.m.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 27th at 12:15 p.m. at St. George's Lutheran Church, 410 College Street in Toronto.

Donations in her name can be made to SickKids Hospital.
