DEFRIES, Robert Lind - Passed away peacefully at his home at Lakeside Long Term Care Centre on May 23, 2019.
Predeceased by his parents, Jean Defries (nee Lind) and John Gray Defries. Survived by his brother, David Gray Defries and family and cousins.
Born August 18, 1946 in London, England; Robert lived in Ottawa, Ontario in his early years and attended Carleton University.
Robert received his graduate diploma in theology from St. Michael's College, University of Toronto in 1989.
Robert had a difficult life journey. He became a practising Roman Catholic and he gave full credit to Father Joseph MacDonald (deceased 2018) and his Our Place Centre and boarding house where he found a return from loneliness to participating in community, found work and began courses at Toronto School of Theology.
Robert, as quoted in the Catholic Register (July 26, 1986) said "Father Joe has given me a community where I can be myself".
The last ten years, Robert enjoyed a full life with the loving care given by the staff at the Lakeside Centre. He was as interested in his neighbors' lives as they were in his. Robert will be sadly missed by everyone.
Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, Bathurst Chapel, on May 27, 2019 from 8:00 AM - 9:15 AM. The service will takeplace at Holy Family Church, 1372 King St. West, Toronto on May 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM.
