Moloney PaulMOLONEY, Paul Michael  -  November 24, 1953 - January 27, 2021

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of Paul Michael Moloney who died suddenly at home on January 27, 2021 from heart failure.

Paul leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Alison Moloney (nee Watts).

He will be mourned and missed by sister Catherine (Peter Allen), brother David, sister Colleen Moloney (David Webster), sisters-in-laws Daryl Watts and Georgina Watts (partner Kelly Thornton).

He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. His dear and long time friends were from many walks of life, including the Cedar Villa gang, his Willowdale friends, his Winnipeg pals and many dear colleagues from his work as a Reporter for the Toronto Star.

Born in Peterborough, Ontario, November 24, 1953, to parents Theresa and James Moloney, the family moved when Paul was a child to Napanee and then back to Peterborough for his high school years.

He was a cornerback for his high school football team, the Adam Scott Lions, and had a lifelong love of sports.

Upon completion of high school he went on to the University of Western Ontario where he studied journalism and graduated with honours. With Paul's degree in hand Alison and Paul headed for Winnipeg in 1976 where Paul got a job as a Reporter with the Winnipeg Free Press.

Alison completed her teaching degree and they lived and worked in Winnipeg for a happy ten years. They were welcomed by a wonderful group of friendly Winnipegers who remain dear some 40 years later.

When he left the Free Press his City Editor, David Lee, wrote a most glowing letter of reference, which began "...If you have an opening for a reporter, hire Paul Moloney.

Paul and Alison returned to Toronto in the fall of 1986 and he soon began his dream job as a Reporter with The Toronto Star in January 1987. He loved and excelled at his work.

He enjoyed various assignments throughout his 27 year career with The Star, starting on General Assignment and latterly at the City Hall Bureau.

Paul retired in 2014 and embarked on many activities, including: yard maintenance at his house and at his sister-in-law's house, car washing and polishing for all, general labourer for his friend's contracting business, volunteering at the North York Harvest Food Bank and enjoying adventures travelling with Alison and friends.

A private family burial will take place in Peterborough and we will have a celebration of Paul's life as soon as possible.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the North York Harvest Food Bank or The Salvation Army.
