JESIN, Isaac - On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, after 101 beautiful years, Isaac Jesin z’l passed away peacefully with his wife, Basia, and his caregivers at his side.

Married for over 72 years, he and Basia built a beautiful and successful life in Canada and he was the patriarch of a large family that spans  the globe.

He moved to Canada shortly after the war with his wife, young son and a “few dollars in his pocket." Working hard to create a new life, he became a poultry farmer in Smithville, Ontario. Eventually, he moved the family to Toronto, and opened up a poultry plant and retail store, 'St. Andrew’s Poultry' in Kensington Market, which flourished for over 40 years.

Ultimately, he was a founding partner of Chai Kosher Poultry, which grew to become the largest supplier of kosher poultry across Canada.

Respected throughout the community as a businessman and a philanthropist, he gave freely and supported many organizations.  Most important was his synagogue, Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda as well as Bnei Isaac – a summer congregation he founded in Muskoka that operated for 40 years. He was also strong supporter of Ya’d Vashem: The World Holocaust Rememberance Centre.

Ultimately, his greatest success in life was the large warm and loving family that he and Basia created together.  He is survived by Basia, their six children; Paul (Janie), Aaron (Sharon), Norman (Edie), Elaine (Danny), Jerry, and Eddie (Lisa), their 25 grandchildren; Jacob (Sheryl), Moishe (Stephanie), Steven, Ahuva (Meir), Maytal (Safi), Aliza (David), Yehezkel (Rebecca), Raffi, (Rebecca), Shlomo (Rivkah), Adam (Sharon), Shawna, Jeremy, Jaclyn, Jessica, Rachel, Jeremy, Benji, Sarah (Seth), Daniela (Seth), Josh, Emily, Joel (Laura), Shimmy, David, Jordan and 3 step grandchildren, Cheryl (Bryan) and Steven, and 28 great grandchildren; Dylan, Benjamin, Alexandra, Jamie, Chloe, Moshe, Ariel, Shoshana, Ayelet, Noa, Maya, Talia, Moshe Chaim, Akiva, Adina, Noam, Nava, Chani, Elisheva, Eitan, Hailey, Max, Jack, Sam, Ilan, Lelah, Noah and Judah. He loved nothing more than sitting at the head of the table at the cottage while all of his grandchildren enjoyed dropping in for Sunday breakfast.

He is also survived by his brother in law and sister in law, Leo and Gloria Slawin and his cousin Albert Bensman.

Isaac will always be remembered for his kindness, his laugh, and his love. His memory will forever be a blessing to the many people whose lives he touched.

The family is forever grateful to the loving, attentive care he received from Gi, Janet and Sonia, who enabled him to live with dignity and in comfort. Thank you also to Dr. Zion Sasson who went above and beyond in his kindness and care.
