Murphy GaryMURPHY, Gary Kenneth - (1945 - 2021) - On the evening of Monday, February 8th, 2021, Gary Kenneth Murphy passed peacefully with his children by his side at Southlake Hospital.

Gary was loving husband to the late Susan Murphy. A caring father to Cheryl and Jason Murphy (Ashley Martin). A big teddy bear of a Pa to his grandchildren Owen, Cooper and Lily.

Gary was the eldest son of George and Viola Mae Murphy. A big, loving, supportive brother to Brian Murphy (Dawn), the late Sharon Greene, Ronald Murphy and Marvin Murphy (Ruth Anne). Brother-law to Gail Hardwick (John) and Elaine Murphy (Bill).

He was a caring gentle giant of an Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Gary was also a good friend to Sandra and Richard Martin and their daughters Nicole and Michelle.

Gary had a childhood love of farming from his visits to his Mum's family farm in Saskatchewan. In his teens he moved and went to high school in Alliston, Ontario in order to work as a dairy farmhand. Upon wanting to start a family, Gary gave up the dairy farm dream and began working at Griffith Laboratories in Scarborough,
Ontario. There he worked in various different areas of the seasoning manufacturing plant for over 40 years.

Gary made many friends through his participation in bowling, softball and hockey leagues. His love of
sports trickled down to his children and grandchildren. Most knew Gary as "The Phantom Father" of his kids... you couldn't see him watching the games, but he was there.

If you knew Gary, you knew he stood by the saying "Diversity over Division," be a person who listens, be kind and help where you can. He made sure that his children experienced the diversity of Canada by taking them camping across the provinces and seeing places of history and importance. In his golden years, Gary and Susan enjoyed experiencing traveling the world.

There will be no traditional funeral at this time. The family will hold a Celebration of Life when it is safe for family and friends to gather. Arrangements entrusted with Taylor funeral home, Newmarket.

The Murphy Family would appreciate donations in Gary's name made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
