SADLEIR, Richard Hay - Born on April 23rd 1929, in Toronto, died peacefully in his final home at The Dunfield Residence on February 12th 2021.
Loving husband of Joan (Robinette), and wonderful father to Tom (Averill), Mary, and Kate (Chris).
Devoted grandfather to Michael, Tess, Peter, Harry and Francis.
Pre-deceased by his sister Nancy and survived by his dear sisters-in-law, Wendy Calder (George) and Dale Robinette.
Dick attended University of Toronto Schools, University of Toronto and received his MA at Cambridge University, England. All of these experiences fostered his dearest lifelong friendships.
After a highly successful stint as a Doorman at Laura Secord’s and a disastrous episode as a Junior Accountant, an extraordinary career in Canadian education began as an English teacher at Upper Canada College.
A lifetime in schools was well balanced with a passion for the arts and the outdoors which Dick loved to share with his friends and family. Theatre and Music gave him the greatest pleasure which he carefully nurtured in the next generations. From Camp Kitchikewana to his farm in Palgrave, from sailing Lake Huron at Southampton Ontario to family gatherings in rural Holstein Ontario, Dick was happiest in lakes, gardens and fields.
Joan and his family are grateful for the extraordinary support and care that Dick received during his time at the Dunfield.
Donations in Dick Sadleir’s name can be made to Sadleir House, PR Community and Student Association at Trent University or to the Stratford Festival, Stratford Ontario.
