SUTO, Gyula Gerry - It is with immense sadness we announce the passing of Gyula from complications of Parkinson’s disease on January 27, 2021. He endured the seven-year physical and mental decline with grace and determination.

The family thanks the team at The Donway Retirement Home for the exceptional compassion and care during the past 3 years.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Eva, and son Gabriel (Jennifer).

Pre-deceased by his sister Anna Szabo.

In everything he did, his focus was to show love for his family by providing stability and comfort.  He listened more than he spoke and offered sage and pertinent advice only when asked.

Gyula was born and raised in Szekesfehervar, Hungary. After the 1956 revolution, he fled Hungary to Austria across the Bridge at Andau. As a refugee, Gyula was sponsored by relatives in Picture Butte, Alberta. After acclimatizing to Canada, he followed an opportunity to the Otter Rapids generating station with Ontario Hydro as a member of the survey crew.

Gyula, now called Gerry, moved south to Toronto in 1960 to further his education at Ryerson. In Toronto, Gerry was introduced to Eva (nee Bruckler) from Budapest. They were married in 1965. Gabriel, their son, arrived the following year.  Shortly after, they settled in Deer Park, Toronto, which became home for over 50 years.

Due to Covid-19 and the restrictions placed on gatherings, the family is planning for a service at a later date.
